''Tieta of Agreste'' () is a 1996 Brazilian comedy film directed by Carlos Diegues. It is based on the novel '' Tieta'' by Jorge Amado. The film was selected as the Brazilian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 69th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee. Carlos Diegues
Carlos Diegues (also known as Cacá Diegues; 19 May 1940 – 14 February 2025) was a Brazilian film director, best known as a member of the Cinema Novo movement. He was popularly known for his unconventional, yet intriguing film techniques among other film producers of the Cinema Novo movement. Diegues was also widely known for his dynamic use of visuals, ideas, plots, themes, and other cinematic techniques. He incorporated many musical acts in his film as he favored musical pieces to be complementary to his ideas. Diegues remained very popular and is regarded as having been one of the great cinematic producers of his generation. Diegues would go on to produce films, plays, musicals, and other forms of entertainment in Brazil. Diegues' contributions to Brazilian cinema developed the film industry. Luiz Brasil (born Luiz Alberto Brasil de Carvalho in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, on April 21, 1954) is a Brazilian guitarist. He is best known as a guitarist who has performed with Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Nando Reis, Cássia Eller, and many other vocalists. He was born into a musical family: his mother played piano, his brothers Jorge and Marcelo became drummers, and his brother Mou became a jazz guitarist. More recently, his daughter Tamima Brasil is a percussionist. Márcio Montarroyos
Márcio Montarroyos (8 July 1948 – 12 December 2007) was a Brazilian jazz trumpet player. Starting his studies with classical piano, he later went to trumpet and jazz. In the 1970s, he traveled to the US to study at Berklee School of Music. In 1988, the Swiss TV invited Montarroyos to produce two one-hour concerts together with the German guitar player Sigi Schwab, bassist Marc Egan, percussionist Freddie Santiago and drummer Guillermo Marchena. In 1992, the German TV network ZDF invited him, together with Sigi Schwab, to play live concert. In the same year both artists played at the Munich Studio 2000+2 . He played with artists including Stevie Wonder, Sérgio Mendes, Sarah Vaughan, Hermeto Pascoal, Nancy Wilson, Egberto Gismonti, Carlos Santana, Milton Nascimento, Ella Fitzgerald, Tom Jobim and Ney Matogrosso. Cristina Braga
Cristina Braga is a Brazilian harpist. Working with various styles of both classical and popular music, she has released fourteen recorded works, two of them also released in the United States, one released in Japan, and one in Korea. She also performs regularly as soloist with many Symphony Orchestras, has won several prizes and is currently principal harpist at the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro Symphony Orchestra, as well as teacher at the School of Music at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. From 1990 until 1993 she was a member of the Board of Directors of the World Harp Congress, and made several tours of Europe along with concerts in Israel and USA. Jaques Morelenbaum (() born 18 May 1954) is a Brazilian instrumentalist, arranger, conductor, composer and music producer. Morelenbaum was born in Rio de Janeiro, the son of conductor Henrique Morelenbaum and piano teacher Sarah Morelenbaum. His siblings are Lucia Morelenbaum, clarinetist in the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, and Eduardo Morelenbaum, conductor, arranger and instrumentalist. He is married to singer Paula Morelenbaum.
