Tidal Wave (EP)
''Tidal Wave 7"'' is the debut release by the Apples (later known as the Apples in Stereo). The EP, released in 1993, was the first official release under the Elephant 6 Recording Co. label. The EP's six tracks were later re-released on 1996 compilation album '' Science Faire'', after the release of the band's debut full-length LP '' Fun Trick Noisemaker''. 800 copies of the album were pressed; 500 on green vinyl, 300 on black. 50 of the green vinyl copies were released with full color xerox covers. The band's earliest material, it is also the most roughly recorded, produced on four-track cassette by Apples band-leader Robert Schneider. The first Elephant 6 Recording Co. catalog (Summer 1993) lists the EP as, "Dense, chiming classic pop. Layered with guitars and soaked in fuzz...." The Apples In Stereo
The Apples in Stereo are an American indie rock band associated with The Elephant 6 Recording Company, Elephant 6 Collective. The band is largely the project of lead vocalist/guitarist/producer Robert Schneider, who writes the majority of the band's music and lyrics. Currently, the Apples in Stereo also includes longstanding members John Hill (musician), John Hill (rhythm guitar) and Eric Allen (musician), Eric Allen (bass), as well as more recent members John Dufilho (drums), John Ferguson (musician), John Ferguson (keyboards), and Ben Phelan (keyboards/guitar/trumpet). Fun Trick Noisemaker
''Fun Trick Noisemaker'' is the debut studio album by the Apples in Stereo. It was recorded in a house in Los Angeles, in Robert Schneider's (at the time) portable Pet Sounds Studio. It was released in 1995 via SpinART. The album is perhaps the most raw example of the Apples, with the rather lo-fi recording values being eclipsed somewhat by their later efforts. It is one of the band's most critically lauded albums. Though the album is an early effort in production by Schneider, he had previously had experience producing with the Apples in Stereo and his own solo project, Marbles. Learning to be a record producer since he was fifteen years old, his influence from producers such as Phil Spector and Brian Wilson led him to use the popular "Wall of Sound" production technique on ''Fun Trick Noisemaker''. Will Cullen Hart
William Cullen Hart (June 14, 1971 – November 29, 2024) was an American musician, singer, songwriter and visual artist. He was a co-founder of the Elephant 6 Recording Company, as well as the rock band the Olivia Tremor Control. Following that band's breakup, Hart and several other former members regrouped to create Circulatory System. Hart's music was characterized by its blend of indie rock, Beatlesque psychedelic pop and musique concrète. Recording career Early years Will Cullen Hart was born on June 14, 1971 in Ruston, Louisiana. His parents, both interior designers, divorced and moved around the country, leading Hart to spend parts of his childhood in Alabama, Colorado, and Texas before returning to Ruston in ninth grade. Multitrack recording (MTR), also known as multitracking, is a method of sound recording developed in 1955 that allows for the separate recording of multiple sound sources or of sound sources recorded at different times to create a cohesive whole. Hilarie Sidney
Hilarie Sidney is an American musician best known as the longtime drummer for The Apples in Stereo. She was previously married to Robert Schneider, the band's frontman and Elephant 6 co-founder. Their divorce was announced in 2004. She was half of the now-defunct Elephant 6 duo Secret Square and, with her now-husband The Onion A.V. Club Per Ole Bratset, she is a major creative talent behind The High Water Marks. Jim McIntyre (musician)
Jim McIntyre is a musician best known as the man behind the Elephant 6 band Von Hemmling. He was also the original bassist for The Apples in Stereo before leaving in 1993. He has written or co-written many early songs for the band, including "Stop Along the Way", "Touch The Water", "To Love The Vibration Of The Bulb" and "Dots 1-2-3". He also plays bass on several tracks that appear on the debut album '' Fun Trick Noisemaker'', as well as engineering and performing on other Apples in Stereo albums. Chris Parfitt
Chris Parfitt is an American guitarist who was one of the founding members of the Elephant 6 indie pop band The Apples in Stereo. Before his 1993 departure, he co-wrote the songs "Tidal Wave" and "Not the Same" with Robert Schneider and his performances appear on the band's original self-titled EP ''Apples''. Parfitt met Robert Schneider in 1992 through a classified ad looking for a bass player. They hit it off over a mutual love of Pavement and The Beach Boys. Before long he was introduced to Jim McIntyre and Hilarie Sidney, and the four started the Apples. Lo-fi (also typeset as lofi or low-fi; short for low fidelity) is a music or music production, production quality in which elements usually regarded as imperfections in the context of a recording or performance are present, sometimes as a deliberate stylistic choice. LP Album
The LP (from long playing or long play) is an analog sound storage medium, specifically a phonograph record format characterized by: a speed of rpm; a 12- or 10-inch (30- or 25-cm) diameter; use of the "microgroove" groove specification; and a vinyl (a copolymer of vinyl chloride acetate) composition disk.
