Tickalara
Tickalara Station most commonly known as Tickalara is a pastoral lease that operates as a cattle station in south west Queensland. It is situated about north of Tibooburra, New South Wales, Tibooburra and south east of Innamincka, South Australia, Innamincka. The Fitzgerald brothers owned the station from 1887 to 1897 and lost about £100,000 over those 10 years. History Tickalara received of rain over a few days in 1890 and the surrounding country was submerged for miles around. The property was stocked with about 50,000 sheep in 1894. Sackville and Sidney Kidman acquired Tickalara in late 1897 for £10,000 from the Fitzgerald brothers. A pastoral lease, sometimes called a pastoral run, is an arrangement used in both Australia and New Zealand where government-owned Crown land is leased out to graziers for the purpose of livestock grazing on rangelands. Australia Pastoral leases exist in both Australian commonwealth law and state jurisdictions. They do not give all the rights that attach to freehold land: there are usually conditions which include a time period and the type of activity permitted. Annandale Station (pastoral Lease)
Annandale Station most commonly known as Annandale is a pastoral lease that operates as a cattle station in central west Queensland. It is located on the tribal lands of the Wongkamala. The property is located west Birdsville and south of Boulia in the Channel Country of Queensland. History The station was the first established in the area when Patrick Drinan took up the run in July 1876. Other properties were settled soon afterwards including Kaliduwarry and Glengyle Stations. The station was named after his family's estate, ''Annandale'', in Gladstone. Drinan sold the property to the Collins brothers the following year. The Collins brothers then sold Annandale to Edward Wienholt in 1881; Wienholt was a well-known pastoralist and held properties such as ''Katandra'', ''Warenda'' and ''Saltern Creek''. ''The Molong Express and Western District Advertiser'' is a newspaper published in Molong, New South Wales, Australia since 1876. History ''The Molong Express'' was first published on 1 October 1876 by Henry Vale Leathem and promoted the cause of free trade. Leathem continued to publish ''the Molong Express'' until he died in 1879, after which it was published by his widow, Marion Leathem, and his sons. ''The Molong Express'' faced competition from ''The Molong Argus'' which was first published in 1895 which adopted a protectionist viewpoint. The property is situated approximately south west of Birdsville and north west of Innamincka. It is bordered to the west by the Simpson Desert Regional reserve, to the south by Clifton Hills Station and to the east by Pandie Pandie Station. Sir Sidney Kidman (9 May 18572 September 1935), known as Sid Kidman and popularly named "the Cattle King", was an Australian pastoralist and entrepreneur who owned or co-owned large areas of land in Australia in his lifetime. Early life Sidney Kidman was born on 9 May 1857 in Adelaide, in the colony of South Australia, the third son of George Kidman (died December 1857), farmer, and his wife Elizabeth Mary, née Nunn. Kidman was educated at private schools in Norwood and left his home near Adelaide at age 13 with only five shillings and a one-eyed horse that he had bought with his savings. He joined a drover and learned quickly. He then worked as a roustabout and bullock-driver at Poolamacca cattle station, and Mount Gipps Station. and later as a drover, stockman and livestock trader. The Barrier Miner
''The Barrier Miner'' was a daily broadsheet newspaper published in Broken Hill in far western New South Wales from 1888 to 1974. History First published on 28 February 1888, ''The Barrier Miner'' was published continuously until 25 November 1974. Copies are available on microfilm and online via Trove Digitised Newspapers. The paper was revived briefly in 2005; an index to births deaths and marriages has been prepared which also notes additional publication dates between 16 December 2005 and 31 July 2008.
