Ticino Musica Festival
The Ticino Musica Festival is an international classical music festival that takes place every year from the 18th to the 31st July in Ticino, in the southern Switzerland. It includes masterclasses, the International Opera Studio " Silvio Varviso", concerts and other events. History The Festival was founded in 1979 by Janos Meszaros, starting in Assisi and then in Riva del Garda until it moved to the present place in 1997, where it fully developed to reach its actual state. The aim of the festival is to offer the possibility to young musicians to develop themselves, meeting and playing with colleagues and teachers from all over the world. It also promotes the tourismus and the cultural life of the region by offering during the two weeks musical public events It presents every year new rising stars from the musical world, including in its agenda concerts performed by winners of the ARD International Music Competition and the Prague Spring International Music Competition. Oscar Bianchi
Oscar Bianchi (born 1975 in Milan) is a Gaudeamus Laureate composer of Italian and Swiss citizenships. He is a recipient of several international prizes and honors. He is noted for his large scale works, in particular his cantata ''Matra'' for six voices and large ensemble and his opera '' Thanks to My Eyes.'' Ian Bousfield (born 16 February 1964, York, UK) is an English musician who has held positions as Principal Trombone with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra and the Hallé Orchestra. Also a pedagogue, Bousfield is an instructor in the music division at the Hochschule der Künste in Bern, Switzerland. Early life and education Bousfield was born in York, England, and began playing the trombone at the age of seven, taught by his father. He became principal trombonist in the National Youth Brass Band at age 13, and for four years, principal with the Yorkshire Imperial Band, during which time they won the British, National and Yorkshire championships. Michel Becquet
Michel Becquet (born 4 February 1954 Limoges) is a French trombonist and professor at the Conservatoire de Lyon. Life From a young age he played piano and horn, taught by his father, a professional horn player, until he turned to the trombone, aged 10. After several years of studies at the Limoges Conservatory, aged 15 he entered the Conservatoire de Paris where he quickly obtained his diploma. He went on to win all the international contests open to his instrument (Geneva, Munich, Prague and Toulon). At 18, he became solo trombone of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, under the direction of Wolfgang Sawallisch, before some years later joining the orchestra of Opéra National de Paris. Sabine Meyer
Sabine Meyer (born 30 March 1959) is a German classical clarinetist. Biography Born in Crailsheim, Baden-Württemberg, Meyer began playing the clarinet at an early age. Her first teacher was her father, also a clarinetist. She studied with Otto Hermann in Stuttgart and then with Hans Deinzer at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover, along with her brother, clarinetist Wolfgang Meyer, and husband, clarinetist Reiner Wehle, who played later in the Munich Philharmonic. Karl Leister
Karl Leister (born 15 June 1937) is a classical clarinet player from Wilhelmshaven, Germany. At a very young age, he learned to play the clarinet from his father, also a clarinetist, and later studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin. As a teenager, he was accepted into the Komische Oper Berlin under Václav Neumann and Walter Felsenstein as clarinet soloist. In 1959, Leister joined the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Herbert von Karajan; this musical association was to last for thirty years. During this time, he became internationally recognized as a soloist and chamber musician. Sharon Kam ( he, שרון קם; born August 11, 1971) is an Israeli–German clarinetist. She won the ARD International Music Competition in 1992. Biography After completing her music studies at the Juilliard School of Music in New York, where she studied clarinet with Charles Neidich, she made her orchestral debut as a 16-year-old with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta. In 1992, she won the ARD International Music Competition, followed a year later by the Davidoff Prix. Eduard Brunner
Eduard Brunner (14 July 1939 – 27 April 2017) was a classical clarinetist. He began his musical education in Basel (Switzerland) where he was born, continuing his studies at the Paris Conservatoire with Louis Cahuzac. For thirty years he was the first Clarinet of the Munich's Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and later he was Professor of Clarinet and Chamber Music at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Saarbrücken (Germany). Vladimir Grigoryevich Tarnopolsky (russian: Влади́мир Григо́рьевич Тарнопо́льский, born April 30, 1955 in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukrainian SSR) is a Russian composer. Biography Tarnopolsky studied composition at the Moscow Conservatory with Nikolai Sidelnikov and Edison Denisov and music theory with Yuri Kholopov. Simon Steen-Andersen (born 1976) is a Danish composer, performer, director and media artist. Biography He studied composition with Karl Aage Rasmussen, Mathias Spahlinger, Gabriel Valverde, and Bent Sørensen in Aarhus, Freiburg, Buenos Aires and Copenhagen from 1998 to 2006. Since 2008 he has taught composition at The Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus.
