Tiago Martins (referee)
Tiago Bruno Lopes Martins (born 29 May 1980) is a Portuguese football referee. Refereeing career Martins began officiating in the LigaPro in 2013, refereeing his first match on 25 August 2013 between Sporting CP B and Trofense. The following season, he was appointed to referee in the Primeira Liga, and officiated his first match on 31 August 2014 between Nacional and Arouca. In 2015, Martins became FIFA listed, and on 28 March 2015 he officiated his first youth international, the 2015 UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualification match between Russia and Lithuania. Martins officiated his first international club match on 2 July 2015 between Latvian club Jelgava and Bulgarian club Litex Lovech in the 2015–16 UEFA Europa League first qualifying round. The Liga Portugal 2 (), also known as Liga Portugal 2 SABSEG for sponsorship reasons, is the second-highest division of the Portuguese football league system. At the end of each season, the two top-finishing teams are promoted to the top-tier Primeira Liga and the two lowest-ranked teams are relegated to the third-tier league. Starting with the 2021–22 season, relegated teams will no longer compete in the Campeonato de Portugal, which will become the fourth tier, but in a newly created third-level competition named Liga 3 (League 3). The video assistant referee (VAR) is a match official in association football who reviews decisions made by the referee. The assistant video assistant referee (AVAR) is a current or former referee appointed to assist the VAR in the video operation room. The responsibilities of the AVAR include watching the live action on the field while the VAR is undertaking a "check" or a "review", to keep a record of reviewable incidents, and to communicate the outcome of a review to broadcasters.
