Thérèse Cadorette
Thérèse Cadorette (1925 – 2007) was a Québécois writer and actress. A square in Montreal, Quebec, was renamed to honour her in 2016, as part of the Toponym'elles initiative. Québécois People
Quebecers or Quebeckers (''Québécois'' in French, and sometimes also in English) are people associated with Quebec. The term is most often used in reference to descendants of the French settlers in Quebec but it can also be used to describe people of any ethnicity who live in the province. Montreal
Montreal ( ; officially Montréal, ) is the second-most populous city in Canada and most populous city in the Canadian province of Quebec. Toponym'elles
Toponym'elles is an initiative that was started to improve toponymic representation of women's contributions to Montreal by renaming public spaces such as parks and streets, as only 6% of places were named after women. Initially, Toponym'elles was created to include 375 names to commemorate the 375th anniversary of Montreal's founding. As of November 2021, the list had been expanded to include 450 names. Thérèse Cadorette was the first woman to be honoured by this initiative, with a square being named after her in 2016. Two columnists from '' La Presse'', Nathalie Petrowski and François Cardinal, proposed several names of women to be added to Toponym'elles: Nelly Arcan, Annie MacDonald Langstaff, Monique Fitz-Back, Michelle Tisseyre, Josée Yvon, Joséphine Marchand, Robertine Barry, Laure Conan, and Rosanna Eleanor Leprohon. Les Compagnons de Saint-Laurent was a theatre company that was founded in August 1937 at Collège de Saint-Laurent in Saint-Laurent, Quebec, by , , and Léonide Lavinge. According to The Canadian Encyclopedia it was the " ..most influential theatrical company in the history of Québec". The company dissolved in 1951. History Financial support at the debut of the company was provided by Léonide (Bobby) Lavinge, the father of François Lavinge, one of the original members of the company. Although his father did not support his son's choice of profession as an actor (and disinherited him for this reason), he still provided considerable financial support of the company. Among others, he bought the property and the farm which served as a rehearsal place for the company. ''La famille Plouffe'' was a Canadian television drama, more specifically a téléroman, about a Quebec City family that first aired in the French language on Société Radio-Canada in 1953. The show was created to fill a void in francophone television in Canada. Whereas the English Canadian television branch of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation could broadcast English-language shows from American stations, the francophone component of the CBC, Radio-Canada had to develop its own programs for French Canadian viewers from the earliest days of television in Canada. This show was one of the few that helped to launch the téléroman genre of programming in French Canada, around the same time the first telenovelas aired in Latin America.
