Torsten Thure Renvall
Torsten Thure Renvall (23 October 1817 – 16 October 1898) was a Finnish clergyman who was the Archbishop of Turku, and the spiritual head of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland between 1884 and 1898. Biography Renvall was born on October 23, 1817, in Turku, the son of Henrik Renvall and Agneta Cornelia Cairenius. He graduated with a Bachelor of Philosophy in 1840 and as a Docent in History in 1845. He taught history in Vaasa high school from 1845 to 1851 and then at Turku high school from 1852 till 1858. Between 1846 and 1847, he contributed to the Vasabladet and founded the Ilmarinen magazine in Finnish between 1848 and 1850. He was ordained a priest in 1857. Among others, Renvall participated in the reform of the Church Act and was a member of the January Committee of 1862. He received the Doctor of Theology in 1864. Carl Gustaf Moritz Thure Lewenhaupt (7 January 1884 – 11 May 1935) was a Swedish equestrian who competed in the 1920 and 1924 Summer Olympics. Thure Johansson (Oct 16, 1888 – June 21, 1970) was a Swedish long-distance runner who is credited by the International Association of Athletics Federations for setting a world's best of 2:40:34 in the marathon on August 31, 1909. Johansson's record was reportedly set on a 368-meter indoor track at the Idrottsparken Velodrome Marathon in Stockholm, Sweden. Competing against American Jim Crowley and Canadian Hans Holmer at the 69th Regiment Armory in New York City, Johansson broke Dorando Pietri's indoor record for the marathon on March 1, 1910 (2:36:55.2). As of May 2010, the Association of Road Racing Statisticians notes that Johansson's mark still stands as the sixth fastest time on an indoor track. Jarl-Thure Eriksson (born 5 November 1944) is a Finnish academic administrator and electrical engineer who was Rector of Tampere University of Technology (TUT) from 1997 to 2008. During his rectorship, the university expanded vigorously and its scientific publishing activity amplified. Eriksson has been a member of the Finnish Academy of Technology since 1989 and of the Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences in Finland since 1997.
