Popper's Three Worlds
Popper's three worlds is a way of looking at reality, described by the Austrian-British philosopher Karl Popper in a lecture given in August 1967. The concept involves three interacting worlds, called World 1, World 2 and World 3. Worlds 1, 2 and 3 These three "Worlds" are not proposed as isolated universes but rather are realms or levels within the known universe. Their numbering reflects Popper's view ''(a)'' of their temporal order within the known universe, and ''(b)'' that each later realm emerged from developments within the preceding realm. A one-word description of each realm is that World 1 is the material realm, World 2 is the mental realm, and World 3 is the cultural realm - though, in the detail of Popper's theory, each "World" or realm transcends what might be typically understood by the respective terms "material", "mental" and "cultural". While each major realm (''i.e.'' World 1, 2 and 3) is said by Popper to arise from the emergence of new entities, Popper a ...

Three Worlds (Escher)
''Three Worlds'' is a lithograph print by the Dutch artist M. C. Escher first printed in December 1955. ''Three Worlds'' depicts a large pool or lake during the autumn or winter months, the title referring to the three visible perspectives in the picture: the surface of the water on which leaves float, the world above the surface, observable by the water's reflection of a forest, and the world below the surface, observable in the large fish swimming just below the water's surface. Escher also created a picture named ''Two Worlds''. See also *'' Puddle'' *Printmaking Sources *Locher, J. L. (2000). ''The Magic of M. C. Escher''. Harry N. Abrams, Inc. Abrams, formerly Harry N. Three Worlds (book)
''Three Worlds, and the Harvest of This World'' is a 194-page religious book published in 1877 by American Adventist preacher Nelson H. Barbour and Charles Taze Russell, who later founded the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania. Overview The book used elements of elaborate Bible chronology, prophetic speculation and eschatology to promote the belief that one could determine God's timetable for Jesus Christ's second coming, the rapture of the saints and the restoration of the earth to a paradise-like Eden. Though it bore the names of both Barbour and Russell as publishers, the book was written entirely by Barbour, a former Millerite, who used some of preacher William Miller's teachings as its basis. Barbour’s writings were highly influential in the development of Russell’s later teachings, which led to the formation of the Bible Student movement and later, Jehovah’s Witnesses. Its computations of the length of the "times of the Gentiles" mentioned at Lu ...

Three Worlds Theory
In the field of international relations, the Three Worlds Theory ( zh, s=三个世界的理论, p=Sān gè Shìjiè de Lǐlùn) by Mao Zedong proposed to the visiting Algerian President Houari Boumédiène in February 1974 that the international system operated as three contradictory politico-economic worlds. On April 10, 1974, at the 6th Special Session United Nations General Assembly, Vice-Premier Deng Xiaoping applied the Three Worlds Theory during the New International Economic Order presentations about the problems of raw materials and development, to explain the PRC's economic co-operation with non-communist countries. The First World comprises the United States and the Soviet Union, the superpower countries respectively engaged in imperialism and in social imperialism. The Second World comprises Japan, Canada, Europe and the other countries of the global North. The Third World comprises China, the countries of Africa, Latin America, and continental Asia. As political sc ...

Three-world Model
The terms ''First World'', ''Second World'', and ''Third World'' were originally used to divide the world's nations into three categories. The complete overthrow of the post–World War II status quo, known as the Cold War, left two (originally British Empire, three) superpowers (the United States and the Soviet Union) vying for ultimate global supremacy. They created two camps, known as blocs. These blocs formed the basis of the concepts of the First and Second Worlds. Today, the terms first and third worlds are generally used to refer to Developed country, developed and Developing country, developing countries. History Cold War Early in the Cold War era, NATO and the Warsaw Pact were created by the United States and the Soviet Union, respectively. They were also referred to as the Western Bloc and the Eastern Bloc. The circumstances of these two blocs were so different that they were essentially two worlds, however, they were not numbered first and second. The onset of t ...
