Three Bridges Football Club is a football club based in Three Bridges in Crawley, West Sussex, England. The club is affiliated to the Sussex County Football Association. They were established in 1901 and were founding members of the Sussex County League Division Two in 1952. In the 1981–82 season, they reached the Third Round of the FA Vase. They subsequently played in both the East Grinstead & District and Redhill & District Leagues. The team was known as Three Bridges and Worth and then Three Bridges United in 1948 after the merger with The Southern Railway Sports Club.. Three Bridges, West Sussex
Three Bridges is one of 14 neighbourhoods within the town of Crawley, in the county of West Sussex in England. History Three Bridges, at first a tiny hamlet (place), hamlet, began to grow with the coming of the London and Brighton Railway in 1841. Despite beliefs to the contrary, the village was named not after rail bridges, but after three much older crossings over streams in the area (River Mole, Surrey, River Mole tributaries). The hamlet became the site of an important railway junction in 1848 with the opening of the branch line to Horsham and thence to Portsmouth. The railway established a motive power depot and marshalling yards to the south of the village. A further branch line to Three Bridges to Tunbridge Wells Central Line, East Grinstead was opened in 1855. The village changed radically with the coming of the New town development in the Crawley area in the late 1940s. The Sussex Royal Ulster Rifles Charity Cup is the original Cup which was presented to the Sussex County FA in 1897 by the Officers and men of the Royal Irish Rifles (subsequently Royal Ulster Rifles). The 1st Battalion Royal Irish Rifles won the Sussex Senior Cup, Brighton Shield, Charity Cup and Vernon Wentworth Cup in 1895–96 and were recognised as ‘Sussex Champions’. The trophy was presented as a permanent memento of their achievement and to raise money for charity.
