''Three Cornered Moon'' is a 1933 American pre-Code comedy film directed by Elliott Nugent, written by Ray Harris and S.K. Lauren, and starring Claudette Colbert, Richard Arlen, Mary Boland, and Wallace Ford. Based on a 1933 play by Gertrude Tonkonogy Friedberg, the film reached No. 9 in the National Board of Review Awards top-10 films in 1933. Film critic Leonard Maltin identifies it as one of the "25 Vintage Movies You Really Shouldn't Miss". This film is often mentioned as one of the earliest examples of screwball comedy. Elliott Nugent
Elliott Nugent (September 20, 1896 – August 9, 1980) was an American actor, playwright, writer, and film director. Life and career Nugent was born in Dover, Ohio, the son of actor J.C. Nugent. He attended Ohio State University. He successfully made the transition from silent film to sound film. He directed ''The Cat and the Canary (1939 film), The Cat and the Canary'' (1939), starring Bob Hope and Paulette Goddard. He also directed the Hope films ''Never Say Die (1939 film), Never Say Die'' (1939) and ''My Favorite Brunette'' (1947). Nugent was a college classmate (and lifelong friend) of fellow Ohioan James Thurber. Together, they wrote the Broadway play ''The Male Animal'' (1940) in which Nugent starred with Gene Tierney. He also directed the 1942 film version starring Henry Fonda and Olivia de Havilland. Nugent was the brother-in-law of actor Alan Bunce (actor), Alan Bunce of ''Ethel and Albert'' fame. Samuel B. Hardy (March 21, 1883 – October 16, 1935) was an American stage and film actor who appeared in feature films during the silent film, silent and early sound film, sound eras. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, Hardy attended Yale but left there to become an actor on stage. He entered the world of film with Biograph Studios. Hardy appeared in about 85 movies between 1915 and 1935, he was often in comedic roles. His best-known role to modern audiences is perhaps Charles Weston, the theatrical agent, in the 1933 film classic ''King Kong (1933 film), King Kong''. Hardy appeared opposite Marie Cahill in the 1910 play ''Judy Forgot'' and the 1915 film adaptation. He raised funds for Harold Lloyd, Harold Lloyd's venture with others, the Beverly Hills Little Theatre for Professionals. William Robertson Bakewell (May 2, 1908 – April 15, 1993) was an American actor. He achieved his greatest fame as one of the leading juvenile performers of the late 1920s and early 1930s. Early years Bakewell was a native of Los Angeles, where he attended the Harvard School for Boys and Page Military Academy. Career Bakewell began his film career as an extra in the silent movie ''Fighting Blood'' (1924) and appeared in some 170 films and television shows. Hardie Hunter Albright (born Hardie Hunter Albrecht; December 16, 1903 – December 7, 1975) was an American actor. Early years Albright was born Hardie Hunter Albrecht on December 16, 1903, in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, to traveling vaudeville performers. He made his stage debut in one of his parents' acts at the age of seven. In June 1926, Albright graduated from Carnegie Tech with a bachelor of arts degree in drama.
