Felipe Cazals (28 July 1937 – 16 October 2021) was a Mexican film director, screenwriter, and producer. His wife was Rosa Eugenia Báez de Cazals. Together with Arturo Ripstein, Cazals was considered in Mexico one of the most representative film directors of his generation. With his films ' (1986), ''Las Poquianchis'' (1976), ''El Apando'' (1976), and ''Canoa'' (1976), he was considered to be one of the most creative and bitter-critical filmmakers in the history of Latin American movies. ''Canoa'' was entered into the 26th Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the Silver Bear - Special Jury Prize. Juan Almonte
Juan Nepomuceno Almonte Ramírez (May 15, 1803 – March 21, 1869) was a Mexican soldier, commander, minister of war, congressman, diplomat, and presidential candidate. He was the natural son of José María Morelos, a leading commander during the Mexican War of Independence. Almonte was also present at the Battle of the Alamo during the Texas Revolution. He would serve as Minister of War during multiple administrations and would also serve in various diplomatic posts in the United States and in Europe. In 1840 he led government forces in an attempt to rescue president Anastasio Bustamante after the president was taken hostage by rebels in the National Palace. Almonte was minister to the United States in the years leading up to the Mexican American War, and lobbied against interference in Texas which was considered a rebellious Mexican province. Mariano Antonio Guadalupe Escobedo de la Peña (16 January 1826 – 22 May 1902) was a Mexican Army general and Governor of Nuevo León. Early life Mariano Escobedo was born in San Pablo de los Labradores (which is today known as Galeana), Nuevo León on 16 January 1826. He was the youngest of six children born to Manuel Escobedo and Rita de la Peña. Military career In 1854 he defended from the liberal rows the Plan of Ayutla that ended the dictatorship of Antonio López de Santa Anna. He took part in the Battle of Puebla on 5 May 1862, in Puebla, where thanks to his bravery, was promoted to colonel of cavalry.
