Thorniewood United F.C.
Thorniewood United Football Club are a Scottish football club, based in Viewpark, North Lanarkshire. Formed in 1924, they compete in the . Their home ground is Robertson Park and the team colours are all red. History Nicknamed ''the Wood'', they were formed in 1924 and play at Robertson Park, having moved from Thorn Park in nearby Tannochside in 1957 when the Caterpillar Tractor Company acquired the land to build a new factory at the time. Negotiations to secure Robertson Park were made by the club's founder William Cowan with Caterpillar, who secured the site as a direct replacement for the original ground. A senior vice president of Caterpillar travelled from the US to meet with William to identify what was holding up the acquisition of the land. In an agreement that resulted from the request to "move our park from here to there", Thorniewood moved to the current location and over the years have sold off parts of the land around the park. Viewpark is an area in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. Situated immediately north-east of Uddingston (but on the other side of the M74 motorway), Viewpark is west of Bellshill. Jon Connolly
Jon Connolly (born 3 April 1981) is a Scottish football goalkeeper and is currently the goalkeeping coach at Annan Athletic. Connolly has previously played in the Scottish Premier League for Motherwell. Career Connolly began his senior career in the Academy system at Ipswich Town but returned to Scotland to sign for Albion Rovers in February 1998, making eight league appearances in the Scottish Football League Third Division before the end of the season. After leaving Rovers, he dropped to Junior level with Thorniewood United before being signed by manager Billy Davies for Motherwell in the summer of 2000. With Motherwell releasing a number of high-earning first team players including Andy Goram, Connolly found himself as second choice keeper at Fir Park behind Stevie Woods. Kenneth Wright (born 1 August 1985) is a Scottish footballer who plays as a striker for Thorniewood United in the Scottish Junior Football Association, West Region. He has previously played in the Scottish Premier League for Motherwell. Career Wright started his career at local professional club Motherwell in 2002. At the time, the SPL club were giving a lot of young players an opportunity due to administration, forcing a number of cuts. This meant Wright would be one of the fortunate youth players given their chance. However, due to injury, Wright was never able to show the goal-scoring ability that he undoubtedly had, and he was released by the Fir Park club at the end of the 2005-06 season. Wright made just 23 League appearances, scoring one goal (the winning goal against Aberdeen).
