Thor Hernes
Thor Hernes (15 August 1926 – 18 April 2009) was a Norwegian footballer, manager and sports official. During the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany he participated in the resistance Operation Durham. He was decorated with the Defence Medal 1940–1945. After the war he pursued a military career, serving in the Independent Norwegian Brigade Group in Germany, and later stationed at home. In 1949, upon returning from Germany, Hernes joined the football team of SFK Lyn. He became a first-team stalwart and eventually captain. He was capped 27 times for Norway, and later served in the Football Association of Norway Technical Committee. In the mid-1960s he coached SFK Lyn. Hernes was hired as organizational manager in the Norwegian Confederation of Sports in 1966, and from 1968 to 1986 he was the secretary-general. Occupation Of Norway By Nazi Germany
The occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany during the Second World War began on 9 April 1940 after Operation Weserübung. Conventional armed resistance to the German invasion ended on 10 June 1940, and Nazi Germany controlled Norway until the capitulation of German forces in Europe on 8 May 1945. Throughout this period, a pro-German government named '' Den nasjonale regjering'' ('the National Government') ruled Norway, while the Norwegian king Haakon VII and the prewar government escaped to London, where they formed a government in exile. Civil rule was effectively assumed by the Reichskommissariat Norwegen (Reich Commissariat of Norway), which acted in collaboration with the pro-German puppet government. ''Budstikka'' (The Bidding Stick), prior to 2004 known as ''Asker og Bærum Budstikke'', is a daily local newspaper published out of Billingstad in Asker, Norway. It covers the municipalities of Asker and Bærum, and is the only newspaper issued in the area. History The newspaper was founded in 1898 by book printer Jørgen Chr. Kanitz. Its political alignment was with the Conservative Party. Today it claims an "independent conservative" editorial orientation. It launched its internet edition in 2000, changed to tabloid format in 2002, and changed the name to ''Budstikka'' in 2004.
