Double Drumming
Double drumming (sometimes referred to as double drums) is a musical technique, used mostly in rock music, where two drummers each play a drum kit at the same time. One may play the rhythm while the other may play another style, or both may play the same rhythm. It is more common to have a main drummer with an auxiliary percussionist who plays Latin American latin percussion, percussion, tom-tom drum, toms, or mallet percussion, but this is not considered "double drumming". Featuring two drummers has been common in jazz music, in particular in free jazz. List of bands including double drumming/additional percussionists * * 38 Special (band), 38 Special (two drummers: 1974–87) * ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead * ABBA (two drummers during their 1977 Australian Tour) * Adam and the Ants 1980–1982.(Also for Adam Ant solo live shows 1982–1984, 1995, 2010, 2011–present) * Add N to (X) * The Albion Band (1976-1978) * The Allman Brothers Band (two drummers 19 ...

Push The Sky Away
''Push the Sky Away'' is the fifteenth studio album by the Australian rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, released on 18 February 2013 on the band's own label Bad Seed Ltd. Recorded at La Fabrique in southern France, with producer Nick Launay, it is their first album not to include founding member Mick Harvey, following his departure in January 2009. The album was the first to feature founding member Barry Adamson since '' Your Funeral... My Trial'' (1986), and the last to feature keyboardist and pianist Conway Savage, who died in 2018. ''Billboard'' described the album as the band's "commercial breakthrough". It was their first number-one album in Australia, and it also reached number one in six other countries. It earned a then-career-high peak of No. 3 in the UK and No. 29 in the US, becoming the band's first top 50 album in the latter. Recording ''Push the Sky Away'' was recorded at La Fabrique, a recording studio based in a 19th-century mansion in Saint-Rémy-de-Pr ...

Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!
''Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!'' is the fourteenth studio album by Australian rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. The album was recorded in June and July 2007 at The State of the Ark Studios in Richmond, London and mixed by Nick Launay at British Grove Studios in Chiswick, and was released on 3 March 2008. It was the last album to feature founding member Mick Harvey, who left the Bad Seeds in 2009, and organist James Johnston, who left the band before the support tour. It was also the second without founding member Blixa Bargeld. ''Dig'' features the same personnel as the ''Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus'' double album (though the involvement of both Johnston and pianist Conway Savage is dramatically reduced). It is also the first to be released since the Bad Seeds side project Grinderman released their eponymous album. In several interviews Cave stated the album would "sound like Grinderman," implying a garage rock sound. In line with this approach, the album was recorded in ...

Abattoir Blues / The Lyre Of Orpheus
''Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus'' is the thirteenth studio album by the Australian alternative rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, released on 20 September 2004 on Mute Records. It is a double album of seventeen songs. History The album was produced by Nick Launay at Studio Ferber in Paris in March–April 2004 and Nick Cave used The Bad Seeds line up of Mick Harvey, Thomas Wydler, Martyn Casey, Conway Savage, Jim Sclavunos, Warren Ellis, and James Johnston. It was the first album by the group for which Blixa Bargeld did not perform – English guitarist and organist Johnston, of the group Gallon Drunk, replaced Bargeld. Cave decided to split drumming duties for the two parts, with Sclavunos on ''Abattoir Blues'' and Wydler on ''The Lyre of Orpheus''. According to Launay, the whole album was completed in twelve days.

Nocturama (album)
''Nocturama'' is the twelfth studio album by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, released on February 3, 2003 on Mute and ANTI-. Produced by Nick Launay, the album is the last to feature founding member Blixa Bargeld who departed the band shortly after the album's release. Recording ''Nocturama'' was recorded in one week during an Australian tour in March 2002, and reunited Nick Cave and guitarist Mick Harvey with producer Nick Launay, who had worked with their previous band The Birthday Party twenty-one years earlier. Reflecting on the recording experience, Launay noted: "I'll never forget the first day recording ''Nocturama''. Blixa swept into SingSing Studio in ''that'' hat. Mick Harvey introduces me and Blixa goes, 'Oh, ja, the engineer.' Mick says, 'No, Blixa – the ''producer''.' Blixa says, 'Well, we'll see about that, won't we?' From a distance they look like the most chaotic band. From an engineering point of view, it's just fucking mental – like recording a live gig but y ...

No More Shall We Part
''No More Shall We Part'' is the eleventh studio album by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, released on 2 April 2001 in the UK (and 10 April in the US). The record, which was well received critically, came after a 4-year gap from recording, following the much acclaimed album '' The Boatman's Call'' and subsequent 'Best Of' album. Nick Cave had to overcome heavy heroin and alcohol addictions in 1999–2000 before starting work on the album. It featured guest appearances by Kate & Anna McGarrigle and was met with mostly positive reviews. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalised rating out of 100 based on reviews from mainstream critics, the album has received a generally favourable score of 79, based on 18 reviews. Track listing * "Darker with the Day" utilises the chordal structure and melody of the rearranged piano version of "Papa Won't Leave You, Henry" (from '' Henry's Dream'') performed by Cave in 2000. A limited-edition version included a bonus disc with two extra tracks, ...

The Boatman's Call
''The Boatman's Call'' is the tenth studio album by the Australian rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, released on 3 March 1997 by Mute Records. The album is entirely piano-based, alternately somber and romantic in mood, making it a marked departure from the bulk of the band's post-punk catalogue up to that point. ''The Boatman's Call'' remains one of the most critically acclaimed releases of Nick Cave's career. Background and production Recording for the album began at Sarm West Studios in London, England in mid-1996, with "The Garden Duet", one of the album's outtakes, being the first song recorded. Though the bulk of ''The Boatman's Call'' was recorded at Sarm West, further recordings—including overdubs—were later done at Abbey Road Studios. Musically, the album's tone is considered sombre and minimalist and marks a major departure for Cave and the Bad Seeds. Moving away from full-band arrangements and character-based narratives, the album's music and lyrics move towar ...

Henry's Dream
''Henry's Dream'' is the seventh studio album by the Australian rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, released on 27 April 1992 by Mute Records. It was the first album to feature long-standing members Martyn P. Casey (bass guitar) and Conway Savage (piano, organ, backing vocals), both Australian. Savage also performs a duet with Cave in the chorus of 'When I First Came to Town'. The album title is a reference to '' The Dream Songs'' (1969), a long poem by John Berryman. Production Nick Cave himself was unhappy with the production by David Briggs. Briggs preferred a "live-in-the-studio" method he had used with Neil Young. This led to Cave and Mick Harvey re-mixing the album, and ultimately to the '' Live Seeds'' (1993) recordings, as Cave wanted the songs "done justice". Cave later said, "He was a fucking nightmare, that guy. I know he's dead now and all, but, fuck, man. I put a lot of energy into the writing of that record, and then for each day to see it drift away… it wa ...

The Good Son (album)
''The Good Son'' is the sixth studio album by the Australian rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, released on 17 April 1990 by Mute Records. After two dark and harrowing studio albums with '' Your Funeral... My Trial'' (1986) and '' Tender Prey'' (1988), ''The Good Son'' was a substantial departure with a lighter and generally more uplifting sound. The change of mood was greatly inspired by lead vocalist Nick Cave falling in love with Brazilian journalist Viviane Carneiro, and an apparently salutary spell in rehab which purged much of the despair and squalor reflected in the previous two studio albums. Cave later said, "I guess ''The Good Son'' is some kind of reflection of the way I felt early on in Brazil. I was quite happy there. I was in love and the first year or two was good. The problem I found was ... in order to survive you have to adopt their attitudes towards everything, which are kind of blinkered." Singles and release history ''The Good Son'' was preceded b ...

Tender Prey
''Tender Prey'' is the fifth studio album by the Australian rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, released on 19 September 1988 by Mute Records. Produced by Flood, the album was recorded during several sessions over the course of four months in London and West Berlin (where the band were based at the time of its release) and dedicated to the Brazilian actor Fernando Ramos da Silva. Details The album opens with frontman Nick Cave's signature song, " The Mercy Seat", which has been subsequently played at almost all of the band's live performances since 1988, and was later covered by one of Cave's influences, Johnny Cash, on '' American III: Solitary Man'' (2000). "The Mercy Seat" was released as a single in May 1988 prior to the album's release and " Deanna" was released in September. On the CD version, the video mix of "The Mercy Seat" is also included as the last track. "Deanna" is loosely based on the Edwin Hawkins Singers version of the hymn " Oh Happy Day". Subsequently, ...
