Thomas White (died 1566)
Sir Thomas White (25 March 1507 – 2 November 1566) was an English politician. Family He was the eldest son of Robert White junr. of South Warnborough, Hampshire (son of Robert White and Margaret Gaynesford), and Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Thomas Englefield the elder. He was almost 14 years old when his father died in 1521, and he became the ward of John Morys (Morris), who soon afterwards became Keeper of an episcopal park in Farnham, Surrey. Thomas White married Agnes, the daughter of Robert White of Farnham. They had 14 sons and 6 daughters, but some of them died in childhood. His sister Sybill married (as his first wife) Sir John White of Aldershot, Alderman and Lord Mayor of London, brother of John White, the Marian Bishop of Lincoln (1554–1556) and Bishop of Winchester (1556–1559). Earl of Arundel is a title of nobility in England, and one of the oldest extant in the English peerage. It is currently held by the Duke of Norfolk, and it is used (along with the earldom of Surrey) by his heir apparent as a courtesy title. History The earldom was created in 1138 or 1139 for the French baron William d'Aubigny. Its origin was the earlier grant by Henry I to his second wife, Adeliza of Louvain, of the forfeited ''honour'' of Arundel, which included the castle and a large portion of Sussex. After his death, she married William, who thus became master of the lands, and who from about the year 1141 is variously styled earl of Sussex, of Chichester, or of Arundel. Master Of Requests (England)
The Court of Requests was a minor equity court in England and Wales. It was instituted by King Richard III in his 1484 parliament. It first became a formal tribunal with some Privy Council elements under Henry VII, hearing cases from the poor and from servants of the King. It quickly became popular for its low cost of bringing a case and rapid processing time, earning the disapproval of the common law judges. Two formal judges, the "Masters of Requests Ordinary", were appointed towards the end of Henry VIII's reign, with an additional two "Masters of Requests Extraordinary" appointed under Elizabeth I to allow two judges to accompany her on her travels around England (Latin: ''Regiae Majestati a Supplicum Libellis Magister''). Mary I Of England
Mary I (18 February 1516 – 17 November 1558), also known as Mary Tudor, was Queen of England and Ireland from July 1553 and Queen of Spain as the wife of King Philip II from January 1556 until her death in 1558. She made vigorous attempts to reverse the English Reformation, which had begun during the reign of her father, King Henry VIII. Her attempt to restore to the Church the property confiscated in the previous two reigns was largely thwarted by Parliament but, during her five-year reign, more than 280 religious dissenters were burned at the stake in what became known as the Marian persecutions, leading later commentators to label her "Bloody Mary". Mary was the only surviving child of Henry VIII by his first wife, Catherine of Aragon.
