Thomas Sutherland (cricketer)
Thomas Sutherland (born 17 February 1880 — date of death unknown) was an English first-class cricketer. Sutherland made his debut in first-class cricket for Hampshire against Warwickshire at Southampton in the 1898 County Championship. He played first-class cricket for Hampshire until 1899, making nine appearances. Hampshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class cricket, first-class county cricket, county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. Warwickshire County Cricket Club
Warwickshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class cricket, first-class county cricket, county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. County Ground, Southampton
The County Ground in Southampton, England, was a cricket and football ground. It was the home of Hampshire County Cricket Club from the 1885 English cricket season until the 2000 English cricket season. The ground also served as the home ground for Southampton Football Club from 1896 to 1898. The 1898 County Championship was the ninth officially organised running of the County Championship, and ran from 9 May to 3 September 1898. Yorkshire County Cricket Club won their third championship title, with Middlesex finishing as runners-up for the first time. In April, John Tunnicliffe and Jack Brown of Yorkshire, set a then-record partnership for any wicket of 554, against Derbyshire at Queen's Park, Chesterfield. In cricket, a player's bowling average is the number of runs they have conceded per wicket taken. The lower the bowling average is, the better the bowler is performing. It is one of a number of statistics used to compare bowlers, commonly used alongside the economy rate and the strike rate to judge the overall performance of a bowler.
