Thomas Shaw, 1st Baron Craigmyle
Thomas Shaw, 1st Baron Craigmyle, (23 May 1850 – 28 June 1937), known as The Lord Shaw from 1909 to 1929, was a Scottish radical Liberal Party (UK), Liberal Party politician and judge. Life The son of Alexander Shaw of Dunfermline, Fife, Craigmyle was educated at the Dunfermline High School and at Edinburgh University. He was appointed an Faculty of Advocates, advocate in 1875 and became a Queen's Counsel in 1894. He gained an LLD from St Andrews University in October 1902 and from the University of Aberdeen in 1906 and was also Hamilton Fellow in Mental Philosophy at Edinburgh University. Craigmyle sat as Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament (MP) for Hawick Burghs (UK Parliament constituency), Hawick Burghs from 1892 to 1909 and served as Solicitor General for Scotland from 1894 to 1895 and as Lord Advocate from December 1905 to 1909. Thomas Shaw (Halifax MP)
Thomas Shaw (1823 - 15 January 1893) was an English Liberal politician who represented Halifax. Shaw was born at Green Bank, Holywell Green, Yorkshire the third son of Joseph Shaw who owned the Brookroyd Mills. He was educated at Huddersfield and later became chairman of the family firm, John Shaw & Sons and was President of Halifax Mechanics' Institute. He was Mayor of Halifax from 1866 to 1868. In 1881, when his son came of age, he gave £1,000 to Halifax School Board to promote education in Halifax, which was used to establish the Rawson Shaw Scholarships . He was elected as M.P. for Halifax at a by-election in 1882. He held the seat until his death at the age of 69 in 1893. His son William Rawson Shaw was elected in succession to him. Thomas Shaw (9 April 1872 – 26 September 1938) was a British trade unionist and Labour Party politician. Early life and education Shaw was born in Waterside, Colne, Lancashire. He was the eldest son of a miner, Ellis Shaw, and his wife, Sarah Ann (''née'' Wilkinson). At age 10, Shaw began working part-time in a textile factory, and two years later quit school to work full-time. Later, he took evening classes to catch up with his education and was particularly skillful in languages. His knowledge of German and French proved useful to him later in his career. Trade unions Shaw was a strong supporter of unions. He joined the Colne Weavers' Association and became its secretary, and was a founding member of the Northern Counties Textile Trades Federation. He was Joint Secretary of Labour and Socialist International from 1923–1925. Thomas Shaw (Medal Of Honor)
Thomas Shaw (c. 1846 – June 23, 1895) was a Buffalo Soldier in the United States Army and a recipient of America's highest military decoration – the Medal of Honor – for his actions in the Indian Wars of the western United States. Biography Thomas Shaw was born into slavery in Covington, Kentucky in about 1846. Shaw's owner moved him to Pike County, Missouri, and from there, Shaw escaped his owner and walked into a Union Army recruiting station. Shaw was stationed with the 67th U.S. Colored Troops in 1864 and stayed with the Army after the Civil War. By August 12, 1881, was serving as a Sergeant in Company K of the 9th Cavalry Regiment. On that day he participated in the Battle of Carrizo Canyon at Carrizo Canyon in New Mexico. The 9th Cavalry were in pursuit of Nana and his band of Apache warriors (Victorio's War). Thomas Shaw (World War I Veteran)
Thomas Shaw (1 June 1899 – 2 March 2002) was the last surviving Irish veteran of World War I. He served in the Royal Irish Rifles regiment of the British Army after joining up in 1916 and fought in battles such as Passchendaele. Biography Shaw was born in Belfast, Ireland, in June 1899. He first enlisted as a rifleman at 15 in 1914 and went into battle, but was sent home after his brother, a military policeman, met him by chance while in France. In 1916 he joined the 16th battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles and fought in battles such as Messines and Passchendaele. He stayed in Germany as part of the Army of Occupation for six months after the war ended and returned home in April 1919. During World War II he was in charge of meat rations in Belfast. In 1942, he married his girlfriend Eleanor. Shaw and his wife spent his last 12 years living at The Savoy, a sheltered accommodation development in Bangor, County Down. Thomas Edgar Shaw (March 4, 1908 – February 24, 1977) was an American blues singer and guitarist. Biography Shaw was born in Brenham, Texas, United States. He was taught to play both the harmonica and guitar by his relatives, and based his style on his collaborations with Blind Lemon Jefferson, J. T. Smith and Ramblin' Thomas. After spending time as an itinerant musician in Texas, in 1934 he relocated to California. He continued to perform and appeared on radio, before setting up his own club which he operated for many years. By the 1960s, Shaw had been ordained as a minister in a church in San Diego, California, and found a rediscovery of his own during the blues revival. Thomas Shaw, also known as Thomas Shaw Jun(ior, was an English violinist, violist, clarinettist and composer who was born c.1752, probably in Bath, and who probably died in Paris on 28 June 1827 or c.1830. Thomas Shaw was the son of Bathonian musician Thomas Shaw and the younger brother of violinist Anthony Shaw. The majority of his career was spent at the Drury Lane theatre in London as an instrumentalist, violin soloist, band leader, musical director and in-house composer. Project 46 is a Canadian DJ/producer duo made up of Thomas Shaw and Ryan Henderson. They are best known for their tracks "Last Chance" with Kaskade, "Collide" with Laidback Luke and "Reasons" featuring Andrew Allen. Biography Early life Henderson was born in Waterloo, Ontario, and Shaw in Vancouver, where they both still reside. Growing up, Shaw was always involved in the arts, taking part in piano lessons, choir training, and school theatre, while also finding time to teach himself the guitar and drums. Though originally interested in Alternative music, Shaw was later introduced to dance music and FL Studio by a friend, which the pair use for production to this day.
