Thomas Rodman Merritt
Thomas Rodman Merritt (October 17, 1824 – January 11, 1906) was a Canadian businessman and political figure in Upper Canada, later Ontario, Canada. He represented Lincoln in the House of Commons of Canada as a Liberal member from 1868 to 1874. He was born in Mayville, New York in 1824, the son of William Hamilton Merritt. He studied at Upper Canada College and Grantham Academy in St. Catharines. In 1839, he was working at a store in St. Catharines. In 1843, he opened a general store there in partnership with James Rea Benson. The partners bought flour mills and had two ships built to transport flour. The partnership split up in 1849 and Merritt kept the mills and ships. Thomas Andrew Merritt (born June 28, 1970) is an American technology journalist, writer, and broadcaster best known as the host of several podcasts. He is a former co-host of ''Tech News Today'' on the TWiT.tv Network, and was previously an executive editor for CNET and developer and co-host of the daily podcast '' Buzz Out Loud''. He currently hosts ''Daily Tech News Show'', ''Cordkillers'' and ''Sword and Laser'', among other shows. Early life Merritt was born in Greenville, Illinois, to a food scientist father who worked on the Coffee-Mate project. Merritt received a BS in journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign and pursued graduate work in communications at the University of Texas at Austin. Tom Merritt (politician)
Tom Merritt (October 20, 1911 – December 21, 1991) was an American businessman and politician. Merritt was born in Rossville, Illinois. He graduated from Onarga Military School. Merritt also went to DePauw University and Purdue University. Merriitt lived in Hoopeston, Illinois with his wife and family. He was involved with the insurance, real estate, and farm loan business. He served as the Hoopeston City Treasurer from 1937 to 1941 and on the Vermillion County, Illinois Board of Supervisors from 1947 to 1964. Merritt was a Republican. Merritt served in the Illinois Senate from 1965 to 1976. Merritt was a member of the Illinois Bicentennial Commission. He opted not to run for reelection in the 1976 general election.
