John Duthie (poker Player)
John Duthie (born in Leeds, Yorkshire) is a London-based English television director and creator of the television series called the European Poker Tour. Film and television As an assistant director he worked alongside directors such as Charles Sturridge, Lewis Gilbert and Bille August on projects including ''Longitude'', '' Haunted'' and ''The House of the Spirits''. Having worked as a second unit director on the TV serial ''Kavanagh QC'', he moved on to become a full-time director on television serials: '' As If'', ''Clocking Off'' and ''Silent Witness'', which won an RTS award for Best Editing and a BAFTA Award for Best Drama Serial. The European Poker Tour (EPT) is a series of poker tournaments similar to those in the World Poker Tour (WPT), created by John Duthie, winner of the inaugural Poker Million tournament. It began in 2004 as part of the worldwide explosion in Texas Hold 'em popularity. Since 2011 the EPT has been sponsored and wholly owned and controlled by PokerStars the online casino and taped by Sunset + Vine for television broadcast across Europe. In seasons 1-3, the most significant difference between the competing poker tours was the buy-in and its effect on the prize pool, with the EPT featuring buy-ins about half the size of the WPT. This changed in season 4 when the buy-in for most EPT events was increased to €8,000 (due to increased popularity and lack of space in participating casinos). The Hendon Mob
The Hendon Mob are a group of four professional poker players from London, England: Joe Beevers, Barny Boatman, Ross Boatman, and Ram Vaswani. The name of the group was first publicised by the ''Evening Standard'' newspaper in September 2000. Joe Beevers is the only member of the group who actually comes from Hendon, but the others played in Hendon. The Mob first became recognised for their appearances on the televised poker programme ''Late Night Poker'' (1999–2002).
