Thomas A. Hopkins (born January 13, 1960) is an American former professional football offensive tackle who played in the National Football League (NFL) for one season. Thomas Hopkins (1616–1684) was an early settler of Providence Plantations and the great grandfather of brothers Esek Hopkins, the only Commander in Chief of the Continental Navy during the American Revolutionary War, and Stephen Hopkins who was many times colonial governor of Rhode Island and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Hopkins was baptized in Yeovilton, county Somerset, England on 7 April 1616, the son of William Hopkins and Joane (Arnold) Hopkins. His mother was the sister of early Providence settler William Arnold and the daughter of Nicholas and Alice (Gully) Arnold of Northover and Ilchester in Somerset. Hopkins' mother died when he was five years old, after which he and his sister Frances were probably taken into the family of their Uncle William Arnold, and most writers on his early history agree that he sailed to New England at age 19 with his uncle's family in 1635. Thomas Chew Hopkins (1808 – October 12, 1876) was an American politician and physician from Maryland. He served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates, representing Harford County from 1842 to 1843 and from 1865 to 1866. Early life Thomas Chew Hopkins was born in 1808 near Darlington, Maryland. He studied medicine under Dr. Robert Allen of Cecil County. Hopkins graduated as a member of the 1829–30 class of the University of Maryland School of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine. Career Hopkins practiced medicine in Cecil County for about a year and then moved his practice to Harford County, and practiced in Havre de Grace for most of the remainder of his life. He was a member of the Medical Society of Harford County. Hopkins served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates, representing Harford County from 1842 to 1843 and from 1865 to 1866.
