Thomas F. Magner
Thomas Francis Magner (March 8, 1860 – December 22, 1945) was an American lawyer and politician who served three terms as a U.S. Representative from New York from 1889 to 1895. He was an uncle of John Francis Carew. Biography Born in Brooklyn, New York, Magner attended the public schools. He graduated from St. Xavier College in 1880 and from Columbia University, New York City, in 1882. He taught in a public school in Brooklyn. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1883 and commenced practice in Brooklyn, New York, the same year. Political career He was a member of the New York State Assembly (Kings Co., 6th D.) in 1888. Congress Magner was elected as a Democrat to the 51st, 52nd and 53rd United States Congresses, holding office from March 4, 1889, to March 3, 1895. Hotel Bossert
The Hotel Bossert is a former hotel in the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn in New York City. Opened in 1909, it was bought by the Jehovah's Witnesses in 1983 and used by them until 2012, when it was sold for conversion back to a hotel. The conversion work has stalled multiple times since then and the hotel has remained vacant. It is owned by SomeraRoad, which plans to convert the building into residences, . The Bossert was once known as "the Waldorf-Astoria of Brooklyn". It was the site of the celebration of the Brooklyn Dodgers' only World Series championship. John R. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 – February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. (The other three were Gene Nobles, Herman Grizzard, and Bill "Hoss" Allen.) Later rock music disc jockeys, such as Alan Freed and Wolfman Jack, mimicked Richbourg's practice of using speech that simulated African-American street language of the mid-twentieth century.
