	Thomas Clinton (businessman) Thomas "Tom" Clinton (June 1, 1918 – August 8, 1981) was a businessman and religious leader instrumental in the formation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Early life Clinton was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where his father James Clinton worked as an attorney. In 1924, when Clinton was six years old, his father joined the United States Foreign Service and the family moved frequently. Clinton's father was first posted in Paris until 1928, and Clinton learned to speak excellent French. Next, the family moved to Vienna, where it remained until 1931, and Clinton learned to speak German and experienced the German culture. After Austria, the family moved to Germany, where Clinton witnessed firsthand the rise of Nazism. His father would stay in Berlin until 1936, but in 1932 Thomas returned to the United States, where he attended high school at the Phillips Exeter Academy, graduating in 1936. 	Thomas Clinton (MP) Sir Thomas Clinton (died 1415) was an English soldier and member of parliament. Private life Clinton was a younger son of John de Clinton, 3rd Baron Clinton of Maxstoke, Warwickshire. Clinton married twice: firstly Alice and secondly Joan, the daughter and coheiress of Sir Ralph Meynell (d. 1388), of Langley, Derbyshire and Newton Regis, Warwickshire and the widow of John Staunton of Staunton Harold, Leicestershire. Through Joan he acquired land in Burton Overy and Upton, Leicestershire, Newton Regis (Warwickshire), Langley (Derbyshire) and Staffordshire. With her he may have had one daughter. On the death of his father in 1398 he inherited the manors of Hunton and Bensted in Kent, where he established the family home. Career He was knighted before 1386. Life Educated at Oxford ( MA 1588), Clinton represented the constituencies of Lincolnshire in 1601 and Great Grimsby from 1604 to 1610. Lord Clinton was a member of the Lower House, serving as an English representative in the Anglo-Scottish Union Commission established in June 1604, before entering the House of Lords on 14 February 1610 by writ of acceleration as Baron Clinton. 	Tommy Clinton Thomas Clinton (13 April 1926 – 9 August 2009) was a professional footballer. Clinton began his career at Dundalk in his native Ireland before joining Everton in March 1948. He made 80 appearances for Everton (73 League and 7 FA Cup appearances) scoring 5 goals (4 League and 1 FA Cup). After eight seasons at Goodison Park, Clinton was sold to Blackburn Rovers in April 1955, where he played only six games. Creation and early history The title was granted in 1298 to Sir John de Clinton, a knight who had served in the Scottish and French wars. The peerage was created by writ, which means that it can descend through both male and female lines. It is thus one of the most ancient English titles still in existence. William, the younger son of the first Baron, was also summoned to parliament by writ on 6 September 1330 as Baron de Clynton, even though his elder brother, the second Baron, was sitting in parliament under the same title.
