Thomas B. Gay
Thomas Benjamin Gay Sr. (May 22, 1885 – October 13, 1983) was an American lawyer from Richmond, Virginia. He joined the law firm Munford, Hunton, Williams & Anderson (now Hunton Andrews Kurth) in 1908, eventually becoming its first non-founding partner in 1916, and worked there until ill health forced his retirement in May 1983. He was the chair of the American Bar Association's House of Delegates from 1939 to 1941 and was List of presidents of the Virginia Bar Association, president of the Virginia Bar Association from 1946 to 1947. A graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, he served for a time on U.Va.'s board of visitors. Gay died in Richmond on October 13, 1983, and, after services at St. Paul's Episcopal Church (Richmond, Virginia), St. Paul's Episcopal Church, was buried in Hollywood Cemetery (Richmond, Virginia), Hollywood Cemetery. Hollywood Cemetery (Richmond, Virginia)
Hollywood Cemetery is a large, sprawling cemetery located next to Richmond, Virginia's Oregon Hill neighborhood at 412 South Cherry Street. Characterized by rolling hills and winding paths overlooking the James River, it is the resting place of two United States Presidents, James Monroe and John Tyler, as well as the only Confederate States President, Jefferson Davis. It is also the resting place of 28 Confederate generals, more than any other cemetery in the country; these include George Pickett and J.E.B. Stuart. The president of the Virginia Bar Association is the chief executive officer of the Virginia Bar Association (VBA), the Commonwealth's voluntary statewide bar association. The president is the Association's chief spokesman and presides at all meetings of its members. Every year, a slate of candidates are nominated by the organization's Board of Governors. At the annual full meeting of the Association's members, a president-elect is chosen by direct popular vote from among the nominees.
