Thomas A. Carlin
Thomas A. Carlin (December 10, 1928 – May 6, 1991) was an American stage, television and film actor during the mid twentieth century. Carlin was married to the film and television actress Frances Sternhagen and had six children. Life and career During the 1950s and 1960s, Carlin appeared in a number of Broadway plays, including ''Time Limit'', ''A Thousand Clowns'' and ''The Deputy''. In the 1960s and 1970s, Carlin taught and directed at Pace University in Pleasantville, New York and at Rye High School. Carlin's film credits include ''Ragtime (film), Ragtime'', ''Caddyshack'', and ''The Pope of Greenwich Village''. Carlin died at his home in Sutton Manor (New Rochelle), Sutton Manor, New Rochelle, New York, on May 6, 1991, at age 62. Frances Sternhagen

''Matewan'' () is a 1987 American drama film written and directed by John Sayles, and starring Chris Cooper (in his film debut), James Earl Jones, Mary McDonnell and Will Oldham, with David Strathairn, Kevin Tighe and Gordon Clapp in supporting roles. The film dramatizes the events of the Battle of Matewan, a coal miners' strike in 1920 in Matewan, a small town in the hills of West Virginia.
