Thiruvanmiyur is a largely residential neighborhood located in the south of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Thiruvanmiyur witnessed a spike in its economy with the construction of Chennai's first dedicated technology office space, the Tidel Information Technology Park in neighboring Taramani. The subsequent rise of several information technology businesses, research centres and offices around Tidel park proved fortuitous for Thiruvanmiyur, as many of the workers at these offices often made Thiruvanmiyur their home. The Marundeeswarar Temple, dedicated to Shiva previously defined the area, leading it to be mentioned in Sangam Tamil epics. It is also commonly referred to as the MICO layout of Chennai city. The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (Chennai) Ltd. (MTC), is the agency that operates the public transport, public bus service in Chennai, India. The Chennai Mass Rapid Transit System, commonly referred to as Chennai MRTS, is a metropolitan rail transit system in Chennai, India. It is operated by Southern Railway of the state-owned Indian Railways. Opened in 1995, it was the first elevated railway line in India. The railway line runs from Chennai Beach to Velachery, covering a distance of with 18 stations and is integrated with the wider Chennai suburban railway network. Thiruvanmiyur is a station on the Chennai MRTS in India. Located opposite the Tidel Park on Rajiv Gandhi Salai at Taramani, it exclusively serves the Chennai MRTS. History Thiruvanmiyur station was opened on 26 January 2004, as part of the second phase of the Chennai MRTS network. Since it was the terminal station at the time of its opening, a crossover was initially planned at the station to divert the trains between up and down directions. However, this was never realised as the project administration failed to include this requirement in the revised proposal for ballastless track. The up and down lines between Tirumailai and Tiruvanmiyur (a station before Velacheri) were completed during 2003. Marundeeswarar Temple
Marundeeswarar Temple is a temple dedicated to Hindu deity Shiva, located in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai adjacent to the beach of Bay of Bengal. It is one of the 275 ''Paadal Petra Sthalams'' where two of the most revered Nayanars (Saivite Saints), Appar and Campantar, Tirugnana Sambandar, have glorified the temple with their verses during the 7th century CE.
