Third Legion (Syria)
The Third Legion is a faction of the Syrian National Army. History The Third Legion fought with members of the Eastern Sector of Ahrar al-Sham, also known as the 32nd Division, which had formerly been part of the Third Legion, but defected to Ahrar al-Sham in June 2022. The fighting killed at least five fighters on both sides, with more being wounded, in addition to killing two civilians and injuring two more. Ahrar al-Sham reinforcements from Idlib were blocked from arriving by members of the National Front for Liberation, which closed a border crossing. The Third Legion took control of Tall Battal. The group clashed with the Hamza Division and other factions following the murder of Aleppo-based activist Muhammad Abdul Latif and his pregnant wife by the Hamza Division in October 2022, expelling the Hamza Division from al-Bab. Syrian Revolution Flag
Since gaining full independence from France in 1946, Syria has used a number of different flags, all featuring the pan-Arab colours, pan-Arab colors of green, black, white, and red. Initially a green, white and black triband charged with three red five-pointed stars, known as the independence flag, was used. In Ba'athist Syria, this was replaced by the flag of the United Arab Republic with red, white and black tribands with either two or three green stars or charged with the national coat of arms. Following the fall of the Assad regime on 8 December 2024, the revolution flag, a modified version of the independence flag, began to be used within the country by the Syrian parliament and the Syrian caretaker government, and at Syrian embassies abroad. Hamza Division (Aleppo)
The Hamza Division () is a Syrian opposition, Syrian rebel group in northwestern Syria affiliated with the Syrian National Army, trained and equipped by the United States, the United Kingdom and Turkey as part of the Syrian Train and Equip Program. Formed in 2013, it cooperates with the Turkish Armed Forces in the Turkish occupation of northern Syria. In 2018, Turkey "deployed 600 members of the Kurdish Falcon Brigade to join the Hamza Division" in "what may have been an.. [attempt] to counter accusations of anti-Kurdish discrimination". As of 2018, the Hamza Division is "made up of 200 Kurdish and 400 Arab fighters" trained and armed by Turkey.
