Third Jones Government
The third Jones government was a Labour– Liberal Democrat coalition government formed after the results of the 2016 general election in Wales. On 14 October 2016, Dafydd Elis-Thomas left Plaid Cymru in order to support the coalition government and to give them a ruling majority; he later sat as an independent in the Senedd. The government was replaced by the Drakeford government on 13 December 2018, following the resignation of Carwyn Jones as First Minister the previous day. Appointment Following a vote in the Assembly to nominate an individual to become First Minister on 11 May 2016 both Jones and Plaid Cymru's Leanne Wood tied on 29 votes each and another vote was automatically scheduled for the following week. Second Jones Government
The second Jones government (11 May 2011 – 19 May 2016) was a Labour minority government. Having won the largest number of seats in the 2011 general election (30 out of 60) the Labour sought to form a minority government, having previously governed in coalition with Plaid Cymru. Carwyn Jones was re-elected First Minister in May 2011 and continued to serve up to and beyond the 2016 election. During the five years of this government there were two significant reshuffles (March 2013 and September 2014) as well as two departures from the Cabinet, both of which led to widespread changes in personnel and in ministerial titles and responsibilities. Vaughan Gething
Vaughan Gething (born 15 March 1974) is a Welsh Labour and Co-operative politician serving as Minister for the Economy since 2021. He previously served as the Minister for Health and Social Services from 2016 to 2021. He has been the Member of the Senedd (MS) for Cardiff South and Penarth since 2011. Early life Gething was born in Zambia in 1974, where his father, a White Welsh vet from Ogmore-by-Sea in South Glamorgan, met his mother who is a Black Zambian. Gething describes his father as "a white Welsh economic migrant". When he was two years old, he moved to Monmouthshire, Wales, with his family and has three brothers and a sister. The Minister for Health and Social Services () is a cabinet position in the Welsh Government, currently held by Eluned Morgan MS. The minister is responsible for the running of the National Health Service in Wales, all aspects of public health and health protection in Wales, the Food Standards Agency in Wales, post-graduate medical education and any charges for NHS services. Kenneth Christian Skates MS (born 2 April 1976) is a Welsh Labour politician. Skates has represented the constituency of Clwyd South in the Senedd since the election of 2011. He is an alumnus of the University of Cambridge, and worked as a journalist prior to becoming a politician. In September 2014 he became the deputy minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport. The Government of Wales Act 2006 (c 32) is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom that reformed the then-National Assembly for Wales (now the Senedd) and allows further powers to be granted to it more easily. The Act creates a system of government with a separate executive drawn from and accountable to the legislature. Provisions The Act has the following provisions: *creates an executive body—the Welsh Assembly Government (known since May 2011 as the Welsh Government)—that is separate from the legislative body, that is, the National Assembly for Wales.
