Thingyan Moe
''Thingyan Moe'' ( my, သင်္ကြန်မိုး, en, Rain in the Water Festival) is a 1985 Burmese film directed by Maung Tin Oo and starring Nay Aung, Zin Wine, Khin Than Nu and May Than Nu. The movie follows the life of a musician from 1959 to 1982, with many of the scenes set at traditional Thingyan celebrations. Plot The story begins with poor pianist Nyein Maung, and wealthy teenage girl in Mandalay, Khin Khin Htar, falling in love. Htar asks Nyein Maung to elope but he is forced to go to his sick mother instead. In his absence, Htar is brought back by her mother and forced to accept an arranged marriage. Htar asks Nyein Maung to play the song 'Nat Ko To Chit tha mya' at her wedding ceremony. After Htar's wedding ceremony, Neing Maung drinks too much alcohol, falls asleep, dreams about Htar giving money to him, and thinks that Htar left him because of money. Zin Wine
Zin Wine (, also spelt Zin Wyne; born , Htay Lwin) is a Burmese film actor. He won the Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards two times and served as the chairperson of the Myanmar Motion Picture Organization twice as well. Career Zin Wine entered the film industry in 1973, when he was fourteen. He made his feature film debut in the 1981 film, ''Thanyawzin Sodar Shidae'' (), along with Moh Moh Myint Aung. He experienced a rise in popularity after starring as Thet Htwe in the 1984 film, ''Thingyan Moe'', directed by Maung Tin Oo under whom Zin Wine had learned cinematography for seven years. He took his first male lead role in the 1991 film, ''Dandaryi'' (), alongside May Than Nu. Zin Wine won his first academy award in the 1997 film, ''Noble Heart''. After the Myanmar Motion Picture Organization was established as a non-government organization, Zin Wine was elected as its chairperson in April 2012 but resigned for his health condition in 2014, before his term was due. Khin Than Nu
Khin is a classical membranophone used in Newar music. Khin are played in pair putting on lap by the players facing each other. A Khin is made of a hollow wooden trunk with membrane covering both sides. The right side is covered with cow skin Cattle (''Bos taurus'') are large, domesticated, cloven-hooved, herbivores. They are a prominent modern member of the subfamily Bovinae and the most widespread species of the genus '' Bos''. Adult females are referred to as cows and adult ..., while the left side is covered with goat skin. Both sides are attached with a black tuning paste called ''khau''. May Than Nu ( my, မေသန်းနု; born on 27 January 1961) is a Burmese film actress. She has won 5 Myanmar Academy Awards throughout her career. Biography May Than Nu was born Than Than Hsint (သန်းသန်းဆင့်) in Mergui, Tenasserim Division, Burma (now Myeik, Myanmar) on 27 January 1961. She debuted with the film ''Thingyan Moe'', playing the daughter of Khin Than Nu. Zaw One
Zaw One ( my, ဇော်ဝမ်း; ; born Thaung Dan; 17 July 1945 – 12 August 2009) was a Burmese actor and singer. He was famous as Thingyan Minthar Gyi in Myanmar. Biography Zaw One was born Thaung Dan on 17 July 1945, in Mandalay, son of Mya Mya and "Taingchit" Thakin Thein Pe. He attended Taingchit High School in Mandalay. He received singing lessons from Bo Kin, founder of the ''Moe Kaythi'' Amateur Band, and later sang with the band. He then studied acting with Shumawa U Kyaw, a famous director. Zaw One made many films. His first role was in ''Chwe Ka Lay So So'', directed by Shumawa U Kyaw. The film ''Say Lo Yar Say'' made him famous. He was particularly famous for the film ''Thingyan Moe''. He also made a few albums as a singer. He died on 12 August 2009, from liver disease in Yangon. Cinema Of Burma
The cinema of Burma has a long history dating back to the 1910s. The person who created the first silent film was Ohn Maung (Burma's first producer and director). Start of the Burmese cinema Burma's first film was a recording of the funeral of Tun Shein - a leading politician of the 1910s, who campaigned for Burmese independence in London. It was captured with a second-hand camera by Ohn Maung and was screened at the Royal Cinema, near Scott Market (now Bogyoke Market), which belonged to a Mr Achar, a friend of Ohn Maung. Despite its documentary nature, the Burmese public was very proud of the film, which opened with the notice "Please accept our apologies for the poor quality of the film". Ohn Maung then founded The Burma Film Company to produce and direct more films. Thingyan
Thingyan (, ; Arakanese: ; from Sanskrit '' saṁkrānti,'' which means "transit f the Sun from Pisces to Aries) is the Burmese New Year Festival that usually occurs in middle of April. Thingyan is the first ever water festival celebrated in the world or the earliest water festival in water festivals. Thingyan has been celebrated since the Tagaung period(1-10 AD) of Myanmar and became famous during the Bagan period (12 AD). It is a Buddhist festival celebrated over a period of four to five days, culminating in the New Year. The dates of the Thingyan Festival are calculated according to the Burmese calendar. The dates of the festival are observed as public holidays throughout Myanmar, and are part of the summer holidays at the end of the school year. The Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards are presented annually to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the Burmese Film Industry of Myanmar. The awards ceremony has been held annually since 1952. Each winner is presented with a golden statue and in recent years also a cash prize.
