Thing-Fish
''Thing-Fish'' is an album by American musician Frank Zappa, originally released as a triple album box set on Barking Pumpkin Records in 1984. It was billed as a cast recording for a proposed musical of the same name, which was ultimately not produced by Zappa, but later performed partially in 2003, ten years after his death. The album's storyline is inspired by Broadway theatre, AIDS, eugenics, conspiracy theories, feminism, homosexuality and African American culture. It involves an evil, racist prince/theater critic who creates a disease intended to eradicate African Americans and homosexuals. The disease is tested on prisoners who are turned into "Mammy Nuns" led by the story's narrator, Thing-Fish. The story within a story is a satire of a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant couple, Harry and Rhonda (actually played by Italian-Americans), who attend a play performed by the "Mammy Nuns", and find themselves confronted with their pasts: Harry presented as a homosexual boy, Rhonda pres ...

Them Or Us
''Them or Us'' is the 40th album by American musician Frank Zappa, released in October 1984 by Barking Pumpkin Records. Album content Its opening and closing songs were not written by Zappa: "The Closer You Are", was written by Earl Lewis and Morgan Robinson and originally released by the Channels; and " Whipping Post", originally performed by the Allman Brothers Band. "Ya Hozna" includes backward vocals taken from " Sofa No. 2" (from '' One Size Fits All'', 1975), "Lonely Little Girl" (from ''We're Only in It for the Money'', 1968) and unreleased outtakes of "Valley Girl" (vocals by Moon Zappa). "Planet of My Dreams" (featuring Bob Harris on vocals) is a 1981 studio recording taken from the score of Zappa's unrealized 1972 stage musical ''Hunchentoot'' (other titles from this show appear on the first-CD edition of the '' Sleep Dirt'' reissue from 1991). "Be in My Video", described as the best song on the album, pokes fun at the cliches in music videos, particularly David Bowi ...

Barking Pumpkin Records
Barking Pumpkin Records is an American record label founded by Frank Zappa in 1981. Zappa named the label after his wife's smoker's cough when she tried to quit the habit. Barking Pumpkin was initially distributed by CBS Records. History Zappa had founded the Zappa Records label in 1977, and formed a deal with Phonogram Inc., to distribute the label in the United States and Canada. Its first releases were the (mostly) live album '' Sheik Yerbouti'', followed by the dystopian rock opera ''Joe's Garage''. Phonogram refused to distribute the single ''I Don't Wanna Get Drafted'' in the US, though they did distribute it in Canada. The song's lyrics criticized president Jimmy Carter's reintroduction of the military draft. Zappa later released the single independently in the US in early 1980. After spending most of 1980 on the road, Zappa founded Barking Pumpkin and released the album '' Tinsel Town Rebellion'' in 1981.Lowe, 2006, ''The Words and Music of Frank Zappa'', p. 161. Al ...

Francesco Zappa (album)
''Francesco Zappa'' is a 1984 album by American musician Frank Zappa. It features synthesized arrangements of chamber music by the Italian composer Francesco Zappa, who composed between 1763 and 1788. Album origins According to recording engineer Mark Pinske, musician David Ocker introduced Francesco Zappa's music to Frank Zappa because it was popular with some college music students. Ocker discovered the music in what Pinske describes as "the Mormon library or something". The exact location where the scores were found was not specified by Pinske, but was possibly archives for the music department at Brigham Young University which is owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Frank initially thought Ocker was joking about an earlier composer who shared his name. Frank Zappa was impressed by the scores and realized they were not copyrighted, and subsequently obtained a copyright for the works of Francesco Zappa. He then programmed some of these pieces into his new ...

MCA Records
MCA Records was an American record label owned by MCA Inc. established in 1972, though MCA had released recordings under that name in the UK from the 1960s. The label achieved success in the 1970s through the 1980s, often by acquiring other record labels, from ABC to Motown to Geffen. MCA Inc. became Universal Studios, Inc., in 1996, and the MCA record label was folded into Universal Music Group's Geffen Records in 2003, but Universal's MCA Nashville use the moniker. History Background The U.S. arm of Britain's Decca Records was established in New York in 1934 In 1937, the owner of Decca, Edward R. Lewis, chose to split off the UK Decca company from the U.S. company (keeping his U.S. Decca holdings), fearing the financial damage that would arise for UK Companies if the emerging hostilities of Nazi Germany should lead to war – correctly foreseeing World War II. Lewis sold the remainder of his American Decca holdings when war did break out. U.S.-based Decca Records ke ...

You Are What You Is
''You Are What You Is'' is a 1981 double album by American musician Frank Zappa. His 34th album, it consists of three musical suites which encompass pop, doo-wop, jazz, hard rock, reggae, soul, blues, new wave and country. The album's lyrics satirize a number of topics, including hippies, socialites, fashion, narcotics use, cultural appropriation, religion, televangelists and the military draft. Production After the release of ''Joe's Garage'', Frank Zappa set up his home studio, the Utility Muffin Research Kitchen, and planned to release a triple LP live album called ''Warts and All''. As ''Warts and All'' reached completion, Zappa found the project to be "unwieldy" due to its length, and scrapped it, later conceiving ''Crush All Boxes''. ''Crush All Boxes'' would have been a single LP containing the studio recordings "Doreen", "Fine Girl", "Easy Meat" (a live recording with studio overdubs) and "Goblin Girl" on the first side, with the second side being occupied by a suite c ...

Sex Doll
A sex doll (also, joy toy, love doll, fuck doll or blowup doll) is an anthropomorphic sex toy in the size and shape of a sexual partner. The sex doll may consist of an entire body, or just a head, pelvis, or other body part (vagina, anus, mouth, penis, breasts) intended for sexual stimulation. Sex dolls are made from various materials like silicone, TPE ( thermoplastic elastomer), or rubber to replicate a lifelike feel. These materials are chosen for their durability and realistic texture, enhancing the overall experience for users. The parts sometimes vibrate and may be moveable and interchangeable. Sex dolls exist in many forms, but are usually distinguished from sex robots, which are anthropomorphic creations designed to be able to engage in more complex interactions. History Sex dolls first appeared as consumer goods sold in France, beginning in the 1850s through rubber goods magazines as "rubber women" (). These early sex dolls emerged from European and American indu ...

Overdub
Overdubbing (also known as layering) is a technique used in audio recording in which audio tracks that have been pre-recorded are then played back and monitored, while simultaneously recording new, doubled, or augmented tracks onto one or more available tracks of a digital audio workstation (DAW) or tape recorder. The overdub process can be repeated multiple times. This technique is often used with singers, as well as with instruments, or ensembles/orchestras. Overdubbing is typically done for the purpose of adding richness and complexity to the original recording. For example, if there are only one or two artists involved in the recording process, overdubbing can give the effect of sounding like many performers. In vocal performances, the performer usually listens to an existing recorded performance (usually through headphones in a recording studio) and simultaneously plays a new performance along with it, which is also recorded. The intention is that the final mix will contain ...

Zoot Allures
''Zoot Allures'' is the 22nd album by the American rock musician Frank Zappa, released in October 1976. It was his only release on the Warner Bros. Records label. Due to financial and legal disputes with his former manager Herb Cohen, Zappa had his recording contract briefly reassigned from DiscReet to Warner Bros. Cohen quickly filed a lawsuit against Warner and Zappa based on the claim that this reassignment was in violation of previous contracts. Therefore, the final four albums of Zappa's recording contract were reassigned back to DiscReet. Title The title is a pun on the French expression " Zut alors!", which conveys "''dammit!''" Album information The album was originally conceptualized as a double LP, but Zappa rearranged, edited, and shortened the track listing to what was eventually released as a single album. Zappa played a test pressing of the original album for ''Circus'' magazine in 1976, which reported a radically different, though slightly erroneous track listin ...

Tinseltown Rebellion
''Tinsel Town Rebellion'' is a double live album released by Frank Zappa in May 1981. The album was conceived by Zappa after he scrapped the planned albums ''Warts and All'' and ''Crush All Boxes'', and contains tracks that were intended for those albums. Overview The lyrical themes varyingly focus on human sexuality, popular culture and other topics. The title track is a satire of the punk rock scene, describing a band that adopts the punk style to get a record deal. The album also contains reworked recordings of older Zappa songs, including "Love of My Life", "I Ain't Got No Heart", "Tell Me You Love Me", "Brown Shoes Don't Make It" and the third release of "Peaches en Regalia" (appropriately titled "Peaches III"). Production ''Tinsel Town Rebellion'' was formed out of two albums - ''Warts and All'' and ''Crush All Boxes'' - that Zappa originally planned to release following the establishment of his home studio, the Utility Muffin Research Kitchen. ''Ship Arriving Too Late to Save a Drowning Witch'' is the 35th album by American musician Frank Zappa, released in May 1982 and digitally remastered in 1991. It features five tracks composed by Zappa, and one song, "Valley Girl", co-written with his then-14 year old daughter Moon Zappa, who provided the spoken monologue mocking Valley girls, including phrases like "Gag me with a spoon!". The album's first half consists of studio recordings, while the second half consists of live recordings. Production Side one was recorded at Zappa's Utility Muffin Research Kitchen studio at his home in Los Angeles; while side two consisted of live performances from Zappa's fall 1981 U.S. tour with studio overdubs.
