Andrew Wells VanWyngarden (born February 1, 1983) is an American musician. He is the lead vocalist, guitar player and songwriter for the band MGMT, praised for (according to ''Interview Magazine'') "an uncanny knack for producing pop music that sounds as if it were filtered through a kaleidoscope." One of his (and MGMT cofounder Benjamin Goldwasser's) songs, " Kids" (from the ''Oracular Spectacular'' album), received a nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals, while the duo was nominated in the Best New Artist category. "Making Time" is the debut single by English rock band the Creation, released in 1966. It was written by Kenny Pickett (lead singer) and Eddie Phillips. The lyrics portray the experience of working in a clock factory while co-workers listen to their favourites on the radio. The song features an electric guitar played with a violin bow. Cover versions The song has been covered by Das Damen, Little Free Rock, Television Personalities, Circle Jerks and Green Bullfrog. The Creation are an English rock band, formed in 1966. Their best-known songs are " Making Time", which was one of the first rock songs to feature a guitar played with a bow, and "Painter Man", which made the top 40 on the UK Singles Chart in late 1966, and reached No. 8 on the German chart in April 1967. It was covered by Boney M in 1979, and reached the No. 10 position on the UK chart. "Making Time" was used in the film '' Rushmore'', and as the theme song from season 2 onwards of ''The Great Pottery Throw Down''. Edwin Michael "Eddie" Phillips (born 15 August 1945, Leytonstone, London) is a British guitarist who rose to some prominence during the 1960s as a member of the rock band the Creation. Biography As a member of the Creation, Phillips was one of the figureheads of the new wave of British guitar heroes, and it was reported that Pete Townshend asked him to join The Who as a second guitarist, although this is now believed to be a 1960s publicity story and Phillips has regularly denied any knowledge of the invitation. "If he asked me, I didn't hear him," said Phillips in a 1988 interview with Chris Hunt of ''Guitarist'' magazine. "I think that was a bit of sharp press." "Painter Man" is a song written by British singer Kenny Pickett and guitarist Eddie Phillips, and first recorded by their group the Creation. It was released as a single in October 1966. Written as a response to their avant-garde stage show, the single was their only top-forty hit on the UK Singles Chart, reaching number 36. It fared better in West Germany, where it reached number eight. It was later issued on their album ''We Are Paintermen''. One of the Creation's most well-known and popular compositions, the song has been covered by several artists. MGMT () is an American rock band formed in 2002 in Middletown, Connecticut. It was founded by singers and multi-instrumentalists Andrew VanWyngarden and Benjamin Goldwasser, Ben Goldwasser. Psychedelic Pop
Psychedelic pop (or acid pop) is a genre of pop music that contains musical characteristics associated with psychedelic music. Developing in the mid-to-late 1960s, elements included " trippy" features such as fuzz guitars, tape manipulation, backwards recording, sitars, and Beach Boys-style harmonies, wedded to melodic songs with tight song structures. The style lasted into the early 1970s. It has seen revivals in subsequent decades by neo-psychedelic artists. Characteristics According to AllMusic, psychedelic pop was not too "freaky", but also not very " bubblegum" either. It appropriated the effects associated with straight psychedelic music, applying their innovations to concise pop songs. ''The Painted Word'' is the fourth studio album by English post-punk band Television Personalities. It was released in 1984 by record label Illuminated. Reception ''The Painted Word'' has been generally well received by critics. Jack Barron of '' Sounds'' wrote "Some people think this is the best group in Britain. But that's a pointless debate to engage in when you can listen to such a well-crafted record." Ira Robbins of Trouser Press called the album "surprisingly serious and altogether excellent."
