MGMT
MGMT () is an American rock band formed in 2002 in Middletown, Connecticut. It was founded by singers and multi-instrumentalists Andrew VanWyngarden and Benjamin Goldwasser, Ben Goldwasser. Originally signed to Cantora Records by the nascent label's co-founder, New York University, NYU undergrad Will Griggs, MGMT later signed with Columbia Records, Columbia and RED Ink Records, RED Ink in 2006 and released their debut album ''Oracular Spectacular'' the next year. After the release of ''Oracular Spectacular'', Richardson, Berman and Matthew Asti joined the core band in the studio for ''Congratulations (album), Congratulations,'' which was released on April 13, 2010. In January 2011, they began work on their MGMT (album), eponymous third studio album. It was released on September 17, 2013, and was released as an early exclusive on Rdio on September 9, 2013. ''MGMT'' is the third studio album by American Rock music, rock band MGMT. It was released on September 17, 2013, by Columbia Records; however, the band started streaming the album on September 9, 2013. Background On September 27, 2010, an interview article in ''Spin (magazine), Spin'' quoted MGMT as saying that they would have less freedom on this album, claiming that Columbia Records was not happy with the reception of the band's second album ''Congratulations (album), Congratulations''. ''Little Dark Age'' (abbreviated as ''LDA'') is the fourth studio album by the American rock band MGMT, released on February 9, 2018, through Columbia Records. It was the band's first album of new material in over four years, after the release of their eponymous third studio album in September 2013. After the band concluded touring at the end of 2014, members Andrew VanWyngarden and Benjamin Goldwasser took time off for most of 2015 before regrouping at the end of the year. The album was produced by the band with Patrick Wimberly and longtime collaborator Dave Fridmann. ''Congratulations'' is the second studio album by American rock band MGMT. It was initially made available for free streaming through the band's website on March 20, 2010, prior to its official release on April 13 through Columbia Records. The album marks a departure from the synth-pop style that brought MGMT acclaim on their debut, '' Oracular Spectacular'', released three years prior, and features a more psychedelic, progressive and guitar-driven sound. Most of the songs were written by the band in early 2009. They eventually headed to a Malibu studio to work on ''Congratulations'', along with former Spacemen 3 member Peter Kember, known professionally as Sonic Boom. ''Oracular Spectacular'' is the debut studio album by the American band MGMT, released on October 2, 2007, by RED Ink and physically on January 22, 2008, by Columbia. It was produced by Dave Fridmann and is the band's first release of new content, recorded from March to April 2007. The album was promoted with three singles: " Time to Pretend", "Electric Feel" and " Kids". Both "Time to Pretend" and "Kids" were re-recorded for the album; they were originally included on the band's previous release '' Time to Pretend'' (2005), with the opening track serving as a "mission statement" and the theme continuing through the album's subsequent tracks. Although ''Oracular Spectacular'' never sold more than 17,000 units in a week, at least 2,000 copies per week were sold during the period from January 2008 through April 2010. Andrew Wells VanWyngarden (born February 1, 1983) is an American musician. He is the lead vocalist, guitar player and songwriter for the band MGMT, praised for (according to ''Interview Magazine'') "an uncanny knack for producing pop music that sounds as if it were filtered through a kaleidoscope." Cantora Records is a Brooklyn-based independent record label, most notable for signing the psychedelic pop band MGMT and issuing the band's first commercial release, '' Time to Pretend''. History Cantora Records was formed in 2005 by Jesse Israel and Will Griggs, then sophomores and roommates at NYU, and Nick Panama. Will Griggs is the son of former executive editor of ''The New York Times'' Jill Abramson. Founded by Michael Goldstone in 2008, its roster includes Alicia Keys, Courtney Barnett, Magdalena Bay, Madeon, Tom Morello, Porter Robinson, Maya Hawke, Tycho, Tash Sultana, Sunflower Bean, Beach Bunny, Caamp, and Del Water Gap. Justice is a French electronic music duo consisting of Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay. They are known for incorporating strong rock and disco influences into their music and image. The Osheaga Music and Arts Festival () is a multi-day music festival in Montreal, Quebec, that is held every summer at Parc Jean-Drapeau on Île Sainte-Hélène. The festival takes place on six stages with various audience capacities.
