Theater Erfurt
The Theater Erfurt is a German municipal theatre located in Erfurt, the capital of Thuringia. The main stage is in a building in the Brühlervorstadt, completed in 2003. The theatre offers musical theatre and concerts, played by the Philharmonisches Orchester Erfurt. Ballet and plays are offered by guest performances. The company organizes the annual open air festival '' DomStufen''. The theatre's current ''Generalintendant'', Guy Montavon, has held the post since 2002. Erfurt () is the capital and largest city in the Central German state of Thuringia. It is located in the wide valley of the Gera river (progression: ), in the southern part of the Thuringian Basin, north of the Thuringian Forest. The Enchantress (opera)
''The Enchantress'' (or ''The Sorceress'', rus, Чародейка, Charodéyka ) is an opera in four acts by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky based on the libretto by Ippolit Shpazhinsky, using his drama with the same title. The opera was composed between September 1885 and May 1887 in Maidanovo (a village in the Klin district of Moscow) and was first performed in Saint Petersburg in 1887. Composition history Ippolit Shpazhinsky's play ''The Enchantress'' was first produced in 1884 at the Maly Theatre in Moscow, and soon it had seen more performances than any other play being staged in Moscow or Saint Petersburg. The actresses Maria Yermolova and Maria Savina were prominent in the title role of Nastasya ("Kuma"). Modest Ilyich Tchaikovsky admired ''The Enchantress'' and one scene in particular. Johanna Doderer
Johanna Doderer (born 18 September 1969 in Bregenz) is an Austrian composer. Biography Doderer was born in 1969 in Bregenz, Austria. She is the great-niece of the Austrian novelist Heimito von Doderer and a great-granddaughter of the architect Carl Wilhelm von Doderer. Doderer learned her trade in Graz with Beat Furrer (composition), then later in Vienna with Klaus Peter Sattler (film and media composition) and Erich Urbanner (composition). Her current work ranges broadly from chamber music to orchestral work and to opera. In the immediate future she intends to concentrate her work in the field of opera. An important aspect of her artistic career is her frequent collaborations with musicians such as Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Sylvia Khittl-Muhr, Marlis Petersen and Edua Zadory, and with the conductor Ulf Schirmer. Alexander Prior (born 5 October 1992) is a British composer and conductor who studied at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. He was Chief Conductor of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra from 2017 to 2022. Life and career Prior was born in London to a British father and a Russian mother who was a descendant of Konstantin Stanislavski. Prior began composing at the age of eight and has written more than 40 works, including symphonies, concertos, two ballets, two operas, and a Requiem for the children of Beslan. Joana Mallwitz
Joana Mallwitz (born 1986 in Hildesheim) is a German conductor and pianist. Biography Mallwitz began to study violin at age 3, and piano at age 5. At age 14, she became a pupil of Christa-Maria Hartmann and Karl-Heinz Kämmerling. She continued her music studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover, where her teachers included Martin Brauss and Eiji Ōue, in conducting, and she continued piano studied with Kämmerling and with Bernd Goetzke. Franz Jung (conductor)
Franz Jung (1899 − 1978) was a German pianist, music educator and conductor. Life Jung began his career as a solo répétiteur at the Semperoper in Dresden. Due to the performance of ''Der fliegende Holländer'' by Richard Wagner, which he conducted there with great success, Jung was engaged in 1924 at the Theater Erfurt as 1st Kapellmeister after Erfurt. At the age of 25, he was appointed General Music Director of the Stadttheater Erfurt. He worked there until his appointment to the Dresden Philharmonic by Heinz Bongartz. In Erfurt Kurt Masur was 1st Kapellmeister under him. In Dresden Masur was his successor from 1955. Ernest Reyer
Louis Étienne Ernest Reyer (1 December 1823 – 15 January 1909) was a French opera composer and music critic. Biography Ernest Reyer was born in Marseille. His father, a notary, did not want his son to take up a career in music. However, he did not actively block his son's ambitions and allowed him to attend classes at the Conservatoire from age six to sixteen. In 1839, when he was 16 years old, Ernest traveled to north Africa to work under his brother-in-law, head of accounting for the Treasury Department in Algeria. The job was not a good fit with Reyer's nonchalant and undisciplined temperament. From administrative documents, it is apparent that Reyer wrote innumerable youthful essays and stories, and original dance pieces. ''Sigurd'' is an opera in four acts and nine scenes by the French composer Ernest Reyer on a libretto by Camille du Locle and Alfred Blau. Like Wagner's ''Ring of the Nibelung'', the story is based on the ''Nibelungenlied'' and the Eddas, with some crucial differences from the better known Wagnerian version (the role of the supernatural is limited and replaced in large part by fate; the initial version of the libretto with a prologue set in heaven was later cut out). The whole opera can best be described as an epic with techniques of the grand opera. Initially sketched out in 1862 (and virtually completed in draft by 1867), the work waited many years before it was performed in full. Ruggero (or Ruggiero) Leoncavallo ( , , ; 23 April 18579 August 1919) was an Italian opera composer and librettist. Although he produced numerous operas and other songs throughout his career it is his opera ''Pagliacci'' (1892) that remained his lasting contribution, despite attempts to escape the shadow of his greatest success.
