The Witching Hour (DC Comics)
''The Witching Hour'' is an American comic book horror anthology published by DC Comics from 1969 to 1978. Publication history The series was published for 85 issues from February–March 1969 to October 1978. Its tagline was "It's 12 o'clock... The Witching Hour!" and was changed to "It's midnight..." from issue #14 onwards. The series was originally edited by Dick Giordano, who was replaced by Murray Boltinoff with issue #14. Nick Cardy was the cover artist for ''The Witching Hour'' for issues #1–6, 11–12, 15–16, 18–52, and 60. Stories in the comic were "hosted" and introduced by three witches, Mordred, Mildred, and Cynthia, initially designed by artist Alex Toth. After ''The Witching Hours cancellation as a result of the "DC Implosion", the title was merged with '' The Unexpected'' until issue #209. Nick Cardy
Nicholas Viscardi (October 20, 1920 – November 3, 2013), known professionally as Nick Cardy and Nick Cardi, was an American comics artist best known for his DC Comics work on Aquaman, the Teen Titans and other major characters. Cardy was inducted into the List of Eisner Award winners#The Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame, Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2005. Early life Nick Cardy was born Nicholas Viscardi on October 20, 1920, in New York City. He began drawing when he was very young, telling one interviewer that some paintings he had done for his school were "published in the ''New York Herald Tribune, [New York] Herald-Tribune'' or one of those early papers. José Delbo
José Delbo (born José María Del Bó; December 9, 1933 – February 5, 2024) was an Argentine comics artist. He was best known for his work on ''Wonder Woman'' for DC Comics and '' The Transformers'' for Marvel Comics. Life and career José María Del Bó was born on December 9, 1933. He became a professional comics artist at the age of 16 working for the Argentine ''Poncho Negro'' series. Due to political instability in Argentina, he moved to Brazil in 1963 and then to the United States two years later. His early work for the U.S. market included ''Billy the Kid'' for Charlton Comics. He drew many TV tie-in comic books for Dell Comics and Western Publishing's Gold Key Comics including ''The Brady Bunch'', ''Hogan's Heroes'', ''The Mod Squad'', ''The Monkees'', and ''The Twilight Zone''. Alex Niño
Alex Niño (born May 1, 1940) is a Filipinos, Filipino comics artist best known for his work for the American publishers DC Comics, Marvel Comics, and Warren Publishing, and in ''Heavy Metal (magazine), Heavy Metal'' magazine. Biography Early life and career Alex Niño was born May 1, 1940, in Tarlac, Central Luzon, the Commonwealth of the Philippines, Philippines, the son of a professional photographer. Niño studied medicine briefly at the University of Manila before leaving in 1959 to pursue his childhood goal of becoming a comics artist. Sal Amendola
Sal Amendola (born 1948) is an Italian Americans, Italian American comics artist and teacher primarily known for his association with DC Comics. Career Sal Amendola graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 1969 with the school’s then offered 3-year certificate. He eventually returned, with Robert McGinnis as his thesis adviser, to earn his MFA in illustration. Sal started his comics career in 1969, drawing stories for editor Dick Giordano's ''The Witching Hour (DC Comics), The Witching Hour'', and becoming Giordano's assistant editor in 1970. At DC, Amendola worked in the production department, where he did colorist, coloring, inker, inking, letterer, lettering, and page headings.
