The Wingmen
The Wingmen is a mockumentary web-series created by the Lark the Beard Comedy Troupe. It tells the story of a group of young men and the rising popularity of their radio talk show. After an unfortunate turn of events leads to the cancellation of their show, they are forced to start up a shifty dating service to pay off their FCC fine. The premise of the show was inspired by real events after the Lark the Beard troupe was kicked off of their comedy radio program "We is Radio" at KVRX 91.7 FM in Austin, Texas. The show was honored in the 2008 South by Southwest Greenlight Awards which featured the best up and coming web-series of the year. Mockumentary
A mockumentary (a portmanteau of ''mock'' and ''documentary'') is a type of film or television show depicting fictional events, but presented as a Documentary film, documentary. Mockumentaries are often used to analyze or comment on current events and issues in a satirical way by using a fictional setting, or to parody the documentary form itself. The term originated in the 1960s but was popularized in the mid-1990s when ''This Is Spinal Tap'' director Rob Reiner used it in interviews to describe that film. While mockumentaries are comedy, comedic, pseudo-documentary, pseudo-documentaries are their dramatic equivalents. However, pseudo-documentary should not be confused with docudrama, a fictional genre in which dramatic techniques are combined with documentary elements to depict real events. Web Series
A web series (also known as webseries, short-form series, and web show) is a series of short scripted or non-scripted online videos, generally in episodic form, released on the Internet (i.e. World Wide Web), which first emerged in the late 1990s and became more prominent in the early 2000s. A single instance of a web series program can be called an episode or a webisode. The scale of a web series is small and a typical episode can be anywhere from three to fifteen minutes in length. Web series are distributed online on video sharing websites and apps, such as YouTube, Vimeo and TikTok, and can be watched on devices such as smartphones, tablets, desktops, laptops, and Smart TVs (or television sets connected to the Internet with a media streaming device). The YouTube Streamy Awards, also known as the Streamy Awards or Streamys, are an awards show presented annually by Dick Clark Productions and Tubefilter to recognize excellence in online video, including directing, acting, producing, and writing. The International Academy of Web Television (IAWTV) was founded in 2008 and is devoted to the advancement of the arts and sciences of streaming television and web series production. Since 2011, the academy has hosted an annual awards ceremony called the IAWTV Awards, which honors web series creators and talent in over a dozen categories, voted on by the IAWTV membership. Background In the past, IAWTV membership was by invitation only, however, membership is now open to a range of digital professionals through an online application form. Members represent a full cross-section of roles and specialties in web television creation, production and distribution. KVR-TV
K32OJ-D (channel 32), branded Texas Student Television (TSTV), is a low-power independent television station in Austin, Texas, United States. Owned by the University of Texas at Austin, it is one of only a handful of FCC-licensed television stations in the country run entirely by students. On cable, the station can be found on channel 15 via the campus cable system that serves the university. TSTV also offers a streaming service. History The station was founded in 1995 as K09VR on channel 9. In January 2010, TSTV began broadcasting digitally on UHF channel 29 under a new call sign, K29HW-D.
