The Welcome Home
The Welcome Home is an American indie rock band from Athens, Georgia composed of Ryan Steffes and brother duo Ethan and Lane Langston. History Early years and formation The band's founding members, Ryan Steffes and Ethan Langston, met in Athens, GA during their first year attending the University of Georgia in 2013. Steffes had lined up an opening gig at the local Athens venue "New Earth Music Hall" (now called Live Wire Athens) and put together a band to back him up which included Ethan Langston and Ally Brady. Following the show, Steffes asked the group if they would be interested in forming a band, which led to its creation. For several months, the band debated numerous names before finally deciding on The Welcome Home, a title formulated by Steffes. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand in the early to mid-1980s. Although the term was originally used to describe rock music released through independent record labels, by the 1990s it became more widely associated with the music such bands produced. Georgia Theatre
Georgia Theatre is a live music venue and event space in Athens, Georgia. National and local acts across all genres have performed at the Theatre, including rock, folk, country, indie, alternative, hip hop and electronic. The venue is on the Athens Music History Walking Tour sponsored by the Athens Convention and Visitors Bureau. Georgia Theatre opened as a music venue in 1978, but spent a few years in the early 1980s operating sporadically as a movie house. 40 Watt Club
The 40 Watt Club is a music venue in Athens, Georgia. Along with CBGB, the Whisky a Go Go, and selected others, it was instrumental in launching American punk rock and new wave music. The 40 Watt Club was the primary performance space for numerous "Athens bands", including Pylon (band), Pylon, R.E.M. (band), R.E.M., Love Tractor, Dreams So Real, Guadalcanal Diary (band), Guadalcanal Diary, the Primates, Modern Skirts, and others. Its DIY ethos and informality were instrumental in the fostering of punk rock and a "scene" in Athens. Drive-By Truckers are an American rock music, rock band based in Athens, Georgia. Two of five current members (Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley (American musician), Mike Cooley) are originally from The Shoals region of northern Alabama and met as roommates at the University of North Alabama. The group also has roots in Richmond, Virginia.
