The Way It Is (programme)
''The Way It Is'' is a topical news spoof show which ran for five series, each of eight shows, on BBC Radio 4 between 1998 and 2001. A one-off TV version was broadcast on BBC One in 2000. The programme is presented by fictional newsreaders Richard Richard (played by Simon Evans) and Lolly Swain (Tracy-Ann Oberman, sometimes replaced by Fiona Allen when Oberman was unavailable). BBC Radio 4 is a British national radio station owned and operated by the BBC. The station replaced the BBC Home Service on 30 September 1967 and broadcasts a wide variety of spoken-word programmes from the BBC's headquarters at Broadcasting House, London. Since 2019, the station controller has been Mohit Bakaya. He replaced Gwyneth Williams, who had been the station controller since 2010. BBC One
BBC One is a British free-to-air public broadcast television channel owned and operated by the BBC. It is the corporation's oldest and flagship channel, and is known for broadcasting mainstream programming, which includes BBC News television bulletins, primetime drama and entertainment, and live BBC Sport events. The channel was launched on 2 November 1936 under the name BBC Television Service, which was the world's first regular television service with a high level of image resolution. It was renamed BBC TV in 1960 and used this name until the launch of the second BBC channel, BBC2, in 1964. The main channel then became known as BBC1. Simon Evans (comedian)
Simon Evans (born 9 May 1965) is an English comedian and writer. Early life Evans was born in Luton. In 2018, he learned that his biological father was the prolific sperm donor Bertold Wiesner. He attended Verulam School in St Albans and then studied law at the University of Southampton, graduating in 1986. Career He has performed one-man shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe since 2000 and at the New Zealand Comedy Festival 2002, Cape Town Comedy Festival 2001 as well as in Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing, Winnipeg and Dubai. In July 2004 he performed at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal, and the following spring at the Aspen Comedy Festival in Colorado. Since July 2010 when he appeared alongside Emo Philips at Latitude Festival in Suffolk he has returned to Latitude on several occasions. Tracy-Ann Oberman
Tracy-Ann Oberman (born Tracy Anne Oberman; 25 August 1966) is an English actress, playwright and narrator. She is known for roles including Chrissie Watts in the BBC soap opera ''EastEnders'' (2004–2005, 2024) and Valerie Lewis or "Auntie Val" in the Channel 4 (UK), Channel 4 sitcom ''Friday Night Dinner'' (2011–2020). Following training at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Central School of Speech and Drama in London, Oberman spent four years with the Royal Shakespeare Company, before joining the Royal National Theatre, National Theatre. Fiona Allen
Fiona Allen (born 13 March 1965) is an English comedian and actress, most known for her work on Channel 4's '' Smack the Pony'' between 1999 and 2003. Career Allen has appeared in many sketch shows, including ''We Know Where You Live'' (Channel 5), '' Smack the Pony'' (Channel 4), '' Goodness Gracious Me'' and '' The All Star Comedy Show''.
