10 Years is an American alternative metal band formed in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1999. The band consists of lead vocalist Jesse Hasek, lead guitarist Brian Vodinh, rhythm guitarist Matt Wantland, bassist Chad Grennor, and drummer Luke Narey. The group has gone through multiple line-up changes since their inception, with Vodinh and Wantland being the only remaining founding members. To date, they have released ten studio albums, their most recent being ''Descontructed'' in 2022. History Early years, ''Into the Half Moon'' (1999–2001) 10 Years were initially formed in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1999 with singer Mike Underdown, drummer Brian Vodinh, bassist Lewis Cosby, and guitarists Ryan Johnson and Matt Wantland. ''Violent Allies'' is the ninth studio album by American alternative metal band 10 Years (band), 10 Years. It was released on September 18, 2020. Its first single, "The Shift (song), The Shift", was released ahead of the album in May 2020. Writing and recording The band began on work on the album in 2019, deciding to work with music producer Howard Benson. The band had previously worked with Benson on 2010's ''Feeding the Wolves (10 Years album), Feeding the Wolves'', but wished to try it again, feeling that issues between band members and their record label at the time kept them from reaching their potential with working with Benson the first time around. The recording sessions began in late 2019, with the band entering the studio with Benson 20 songs already written. Hard Rock
Hard rock or heavy rock is a loosely defined subgenre of rock music typified by aggressive vocals and distorted electric guitars. Hard rock began in the mid-1960s with the garage, psychedelic and blues rock movements. Howard Benson
Howard Benson is an American music producer and multi-instrumentalist. He was nominated for the Producer of the Year Grammy Award in 2007 and 2008. Early life and education Benson was born and raised in a middle-class family in greater Philadelphia, the son of Estelle and Robert Benson. He is of Jewish descent. He began playing keyboards in rock bands at the age of 13. He attended college at Drexel University and studied engineering. During his years at Drexel, Benson took a year off and studied composition at the Philadelphia College for Performing Arts. Benson graduated from Drexel with a degree in materials engineering. After graduation, he moved to Los Angeles and worked for Garrett AiResearch, where he worked on aircraft such as C-5s and F-18s. Background and recording The song was recorded in late 2019 for the band's upcoming untitled ninth studio album due out in 2020. The song was recorded with music producer Howard Benson, who the band previously worked with on their album ''Feeding the Wolves (10 Years album), Feeding the Wolves''. The song was the product of very challenging recording sessions with Benson, who rejected 75% of the material previously written prior to entering the studio, leaving the band to write and record new material in the studio on the spot with Benson. Alternative Metal
Alternative metal (also known as alt-metal) is a genre of heavy metal music that combines heavy metal with influences from alternative rock and other genres not normally associated with metal.
