Madame Bovary
''Madame Bovary: Provincial Manners'' (; ), commonly known as simply ''Madame Bovary'', is the début novel by France, French writer Gustave Flaubert, originally published in 1856 and 1857. A seminal work of literary realism, the novel is now considered amongst Flaubert's masterpieces, and one of the most influential literary works in history. Plot synopsis Charles Bovary is a shy, oddly dressed teenager who becomes an '':fr:Officier de santé, Officier de santé'' in the Public Health Service. He marries the woman his moth ...
