The Three Out
The Three Out (sometimes written The 3-Out or The Three Out Trio) were an Australian jazz trio made up of Mike Nock, Chris Karan, and Freddy Logan. They released two albums before separating. History Pianist Mike Nock was born in New Zealand but moved to Australia in 1958, and found work at Melbourne's The Embers restaurant where he began playing with Chris Karan. Karan was born in Australia and had been playing drums locally for some years before joining The Embers' house band when it opened in 1959. After The Embers briefly closed following a fire, Karan and Nock both relocated to Sydney. Freddy Logan had been working in Sydney for several years, following his arrival in Australia in 1956. Born in the Netherlands, he had played bass in jazz bands across Europe, and in Australia was part of the highly successful Australian All Stars Jazz Band. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its roots are in blues, ragtime, European harmony, African rhythmic rituals, spirituals, hymns, marches, vaudeville song, and dance music. Tubby Hayes
Edward Brian "Tubby" Hayes (30 January 1935 – 8 June 1973) was a British jazz multi-instrumentalist, best known for his virtuosic musicianship on tenor saxophone and for performing in jazz groups with fellow sax player Ronnie Scott and trumpeter Jimmy Deuchar. He is widely considered to be one of the finest jazz saxophonists to have emerged from Britain. Dudley Stuart John Moore (19 April 193527 March 2002) was an English actor, comedian, musician and composer. He first came to prominence in the UK as a leading figure in the British satire boom of the 1960s. He was one of the four writer-performers in the comedy revue '' Beyond the Fringe'' from 1960 that created a boom in satirical comedy. With a member of that team, Peter Cook, Moore collaborated on the BBC television series '' Not Only... But Also''. The Fourth Way (band)
The Fourth Way was an American jazz quartet, comprising Eddie Marshall, Mike Nock, Michael White, and Ron McClure. They formed in 1967 and worked primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area through the early 1970s, releasing three albums. Like their contemporaries Weather Report, they were early pioneers of electric jazz fusion, with Nock's Fender Rhodes piano run through many effects pedals including ring modulation, Michael White's electrically amplified violin, and Ron McClure's electric bass. Their second album, The Fourth Way, released in 1969 includes: Ron McClure on acoustic bass, amplified acoustic bass and electric bass, Mike Nock on piano and electric piano, Michael White on acoustic violin and amplified acoustic violin and Eddie Marshall on drums. Don Burrows
Donald Vernon Burrows (8 August 1928 – 12 March 2020) was an Australian jazz and swing musician who played clarinet, saxophone and flute. Life and career Donald Vernon Burrows was born on 8 August 1928, the only child of Vernon and Beryl and attended Bondi Public School. In 1937 a visiting flutist and teacher ( Victor McMahon) inspired him to start learning the flute. He began on a B-flat flute which he later played at Carnegie Hall and the Newport Jazz Festival. By 1940 he was captain of the Metropolitan Schools Flute Band and began entering talent quests. By 1942, aged 14, Burrows had begun playing clarinet and quit school. He began appearing at Sydney jazz clubs, and appeared on ''The Youth Show'', a Macquarie Radio show. In 1944 he was invited to play and record with George Trevare's Australians. Lee Gordon (promoter)
Lee Gordon (born March 8, 1923 – November 7, 1963) was an American entrepreneur and rock and roll promoter who worked extensively in Australia in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Gordon's jazz and rock 'n' roll tours had a major impact on the Australian music scene and he also played a significant role in the early career of pioneering Australian rock'n'roll singer Johnny O'Keefe, serving as his manager. Michael Anthony Nock (born 27 September 1940) is a New Zealand jazz pianist, who lives and works in Australia. Biography Nock was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, but spent his childhood in Ngāruawāhia. Nock began studying piano at 11.
