''The Three-Sided Mirror'' () is a 1927 French drama film directed by Jean Epstein, starring Jeanne Helbling, Suzy Pierson and Olga Day. It tells the story of three women who remember their love affairs with the same young man. The film is based on Paul Morand's short story with the same title. It was shot during the summer of 1927. It premiered on 22 November the same year. Jean Epstein
Jean Epstein (; 25 March 1897 – 2 April 1953) was a French filmmaker, film theorist, literary critic, and novelist. Although he is remembered today primarily for his adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's '' The Fall of the House of Usher'', he directed three dozen films and was an influential critic of literature and film from the early 1920s through the late 1940s. He is often associated with French Impressionist Cinema and the concept of ''photogénie''. Life and career Epstein was born in Warsaw, Kingdom of Poland (then a part of the Russian Empire) to a French-Jewish father and Polish mother. After his father died in 1908, the family relocated to Switzerland, where Epstein remained until beginning medical school at the University of Lyon in France. While in Lyon, Epstein served as a secretary and translator for Auguste Lumière, considered one of the founders of cinema. Paul Morand
Paul Morand (13 March 1888 – 24 July 1976) was a French author whose short stories and novellas were lauded for their style, wit and descriptive power. His most productive literary period was the interwar period of the 1920s and 1930s. He was much admired by the upper echelons of society and the artistic avant-garde who made him a cult favorite. He has been categorized as an early Modernist and Imagist. Morand was a graduate of the Paris Institute of Political Studies, preparing him for a diplomatic career, and also attended Oxford University. René Ferté (1903–1958) was a Swiss actor who worked principally in the French cinema, from 1923 onwards. He is mostly known for performances in a series of silent films directed by Jean Epstein. His roles in sound films were generally less notable, though he appeared in Fritz Lang's '' Le Testament du docteur Mabuse'' (French version), and he took the title role in the 1934 sound remake of ''Judex''.
