Raymond Walburn
Raymond Walburn (September 9, 1887 – July 26, 1969) was an American character actor of stage and screen who appeared in dozens of Hollywood movie comedies and an occasional dramatic role during the 1930s and 1940s. Life and career Born in Plymouth, Indiana, Walburn in the early 1900s moved to Oakland, California, and began acting on stage, which was also his mother's profession. He performed in stock theater for only four years before being cast on Broadway, where he made his debut in ''Cordelia Blossom'' in 1914. Over a half century later, in 1965, Walburn acted in his final Broadway production, ''A Very Rich Woman''. During his long career, he also toured extensively, performing on stages throughout the United States and in other countries. Walburn did not make an impact in films until 1934 with the release of ''The Count of Monte Cristo'' starring Robert Donat. Vitagraph Studios, also known as the Vitagraph Company of America, was a United States motion picture studio. It was founded by J. Stuart Blackton and Albert E. Smith in 1897 in Brooklyn, New York, as the American Vitagraph Company. By 1907, it was the most prolific American film production company, producing many famous silent films. It was bought by Warner Bros. in 1925. History In 1896, English émigré Blackton was moonlighting as a reporter/artist for the New York ''Evening World'' when he was sent to interview Thomas Edison about his new film projector. Eulalie Jensen (December 24, 1884 – October 7, 1952) was an American actress on the New York stage and in silent films. Biography Born in St. Louis, Missouri, she was selected as one of six extra girls from the 200 applicants responding to a New York newspaper ad inserted by Sarah Bernhardt. The famed actress was making a visit to New York City. At this time, Miss Jensen was completely unknown, but this was the beginning of her film career. A number of years of stage experience enabled Jensen to become a fine ''emotional actress''. Her stage engagements included a role in ''The Million'' at the 39th St. Theatre. This was a four-act farce by M. M. Ber and Guille Ward. The show was also featured in New Haven, Connecticut at the Hyperion Theatre. Both productions were in 1911. Edith Storey (March 18, 1892 – October 9, 1967) was an American actress during the silent film era. Early life Storey was born on March 18, 1892, in New York City to William Chase Storey and Minnie Storey (née Thorn). Her younger brother, Richard, also had a brief acting career. Storey began acting when she was a child. Her film career began with the film ''Francesca di Rimini'' (1908), also called ''The Two Brothers''. She would have two film roles in 1908, and a total of seventy-five by 1913. Many of these films were Westerns, as Storey was reportedly an excellent horseback rider and could perform her own stunts. Nicknamed Billy at the Star Film Ranch in Texas, she earned the good will of the seasoned cowboys in the Méliès film company for her ability to "ride anything with hair on it". Charles Kent (18 June 1853 – 21 May 1923) was a British-American stage actor and silent film actor and director. He appeared in more than 140 films between 1908 and 1923. He also directed 36 films between 1908 and 1913. Personal life Kent was born on 18 June 1953 in London to Frederick Kent, an Englishman, and Martha Kent, a French woman, in 1853.
