The System Kills Us
The System Kills Us () is the name of a Bulgarian protest movement and association of mothers and legal guardians of children with disabilities, campaigning for disability rights and state support for disabled people. It uses a black flag, symbolizing death and mourning as its official symbol. The movement's goals revolve around securing state subsidies for disabled people and their families, especially for family members put in charge of caring for their disabled children. According to it, around 77,000 people in Bulgaria are in need of state support in order to secure a decent living. History Foundation The movement was founded on 18 April 2018, amidst an informal protest in favour of state support for disabled people. Valeri Simeonov Simeonov ( bg, Валери Симеонов Симеонов; born 14 March 1955) is a Bulgarian politician who is one of the leaders and founding members of the National Front for the Salvation of Bulgaria. Biography Born in Dolni Chiflik, Simeonov has a degree in electrical engineering from TU-Sofia. In the 1990s he founded the SKAT cable network in the city of Burgas. As was customary for Bulgarian cable networks at the time, the SKAT company soon started its own TV channels. The cable TV network is currently one of the main competitors in Southwestern Bulgaria. He was associated with the Attack party through his SKAT TV, but left the party and withdrew his support from Volen Siderov in November 2009. Bankya
Bankya ( bg, Банкя ) is a small town located on the outskirts of Sofia in western Bulgaria. It is administratively part of Greater Sofia. The district is famous for the mineral springs and baths that have been used for medicinal purposes for hundreds of years. In 1969 the village of Bankya was proclaimed a town, and in 1979 it became part of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. Bankya is 17 km west of capital Sofia. It is situated at the foot of Lyulin Mountain at an average elevation of around 630–750 meters. The first people to populate the region of Bankya were Thracian tribes, over 2500 years ago. Boyko Borisov
Boyko Metodiev Borisov ( bg, Бойко Методиев Борисов, ; born 13 June 1959) is a Bulgarian politician who served as the prime minister of Bulgaria from 2009 to 2013, 2014 to 2017, and 2017 to 2021, making him Bulgaria's List of Prime Ministers of Bulgaria, second-longest serving prime minister to date. 2020–2021 Bulgarian Protests
The 2020–2021 Bulgarian protests were a series of demonstrations that were being held in Bulgaria, mainly in the capital Sofia, as well as cities with a large Bulgarian diaspora, such as Brussels, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Berlin and London. The protest movement was the culmination of long-standing grievances against endemic corruption and state capture, particularly associated with prime minister Boyko Borisov's governments, in power since 2009. Spontaneous demonstrations were triggered by the 9 July 2020 raid on the Presidency of Bulgaria by police and prosecutors in what was perceived as an attack against President Rumen Radev, a vocal critic of Borisov's rule. COVID-19 Pandemic In Bulgaria
The COVID-19 pandemic in Bulgaria is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 () caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (). The virus was confirmed to have spread to Bulgaria when the country's first cases, a 27-year-old man from Pleven and a 75-year-old woman from Gabrovo, were confirmed on 8 March 2020. Neither of the two had traveled to areas with known coronavirus cases which is maybe because the PCR test that was used is deffective. The man tested positive for the virus after being hospitalized for a respiratory infection, and authorities announced plans to test several people who were in contact with the two individuals. Two other samples in Pleven and Gabrovo were positive on 8 March. Patient zero remains unknown. Vladislav Ivanov Goranov ( bg, Владислав Иванов Горанов) (born 30 April 1977) is a Bulgarian economist and politician, who served as Minister of Finance of the Republic of Bulgaria until late July 2020.
