The Swift Show
''The Swift Show'' is an American variety/game show that aired on Thursdays at 8:30pm EST on NBC premiering April 1, 1948 and running to 1949. Overview The series, sponsored by the Swift & Company meat packing company, was mainly a musical variety show hosted by Lanny Ross, although during its first few months, it also featured a quiz show segment. Guest stars included Eileen Barton, Frank Fontaine, Max Showalter, and Susan Shaw. For the first five months, a quiz show segment was included. In September 1948, the show became "Lanny's penthouse with his girlfriend Eileen Barton visiting". In March 1949, the show reverted to a purely musical variety show. Episode status Two episodes, from May 13, 1948 and May 27, 1948, are in the collection of the UCLA Film and Television Archive, and an episode from March 31, 1949 is in the collection of the Paley Center for Media. P. was an American singer, pianist, songwriter, and collegiate sprinter. Biography He was born Lancelot Patrick Ross in Seattle, Washington. He graduated from Taft School in 1924, where he captained the track team and led the glee club, and Yale University in 1928, where he blossomed as one of the nation's foremost intercollegiate track performers. As a sprinter, he won the 1928 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships title in the 300 yards. ''Swift Home Service Club'' is a 1947-1948 American television show, "credited with being the first sponsored daytime network TV show." Hosted by Tex McCrary and Jinx Falkenburg, it aired Monday through Friday at 1 p.m. ET. Broadcast history The show launched on NBC Television in May 1947, Mondays through Fridays at 1 p.m. ET. Susan Shaw
Susan Shaw (29 August 192927 November 1978; born Patricia Gwendoline Sloots) was an English actress. Early life Shaw was born Patricia Gwendoline Sloots on 29 August 1929 in West Norwood, London, to Edward John Sloots and Lillian Rose Lewis. She'd wanted to become a dress designer but was working as a typist at the Ministry of Information when she did a screen test for the J. Arthur Rank Organisation. She was signed to a term contract and trained at the organisation's 'charm school'. Max Gordon Showalter (June 2, 1917 – July 30, 2000), sometimes credited as Casey Adams, was an American film, television, and stage actor, as well as a composer, pianist, and singer. He appeared on more than 1,000 television programs. One of Showalter's memorable roles was as the husband of Jean Peters' character in the 1953 film ''Niagara (1953 film), Niagara''.
