The Suram Fortress
''The Suram Fortress (Suramis tsikhe)'' ( ka, სურამის ციხე, ) is a 1922 Soviet Georgian adventure film directed by Ivan Perestiani, based on Daniel Chonkadze's novel with the same title. Plot The film consists of two novellas. The first is dedicated to the tragic fate of the serf peasant girl Maria. The action of the second novella takes place in Imereti. A serf girl gives birth to a boy by the son of a landowner. By the order of the old prince, the child is kidnapped and sent to be raised in Tiflis. Years pass. Durmishkhan is raised by the prince’s sister along with his peer, the orphan Vardua. When Durmishkhan embarks on his first journey, he swears his love and loyalty to Vardua, but soon marries another and settles in Surani. Upon learning of her lover's betrayal, Vardua decides to take cruel revenge. Ivan Nikolayevich Perestiani (also Ivane, ka, ივანე პერესტიანი; ; — 14 May 1959) was a Georgian/Soviet film director, screenwriter and actor, and People's Artist of the Georgian SSR (1949). He was of Kefalonian Greek descent. Biography Ivan Perestiani was born in the city of Taganrog into the family of Nikolay Afanasyevich Perestiani on . His first actor's experience was onstage of Taganrog Theatre under name of ''Ivan Nevedomov'' in 1886. The first movie roles played by Perestiani were ''Grif starogo bortsa'' a.k.a. ''Griffon of an Old Warrior'' and ''Zhizn za zhizn'' a.k.a. ''A Life for a Life'' in 1916. During Russian Civil War, he wrote scenario for several short films.
