''Demi's Birthday Suit'', or ''The Suit'', was a trompe-l'œil body painting by Joanne Gair photographed by Annie Leibovitz that was featured on the cover of the ''Vanity Fair (magazine), Vanity Fair'' August 1992 issue to commemorate and exploit the success of Leibovitz's ''More Demi Moore'' cover photo of Demi Moore one year earlier. As an example of modern body painting artwork, it raised the profile of Gair in popular culture, pop culture as an artist in that genre. The work is considered to be groundbreaking by some, although there is controversy surrounding its originality. The Suit (short Story)
"The Suit" is a short story by the South African writer Can Themba. It was first published in 1963 in the inaugural issue of ''The Classic'', a South African literary journal founded by Nat Nakasa and Nadine Gordimer. On publication, the story was banned by the apartheid regime. "The Suit" was adapted for the stage by Mothobi Mutloatse and Barney Simon in 1994, and has been adapted into a short film of the same name, written and directed by Jarryd Coetsee and premiered in 2016. The story The story takes places in Sophiatown, a township of Johannesburg, in the early 1950s, shortly before the apartheid regime forcibly removed non-whites from the area to make way for white resettlement under the Group Areas Act and the Natives Resettlement Act, 1954. The Suit (Russian: Шик) is a 2003 film by Bakhtyar Khudojnazarov with collaboration from Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France. The film script is written by Oleg Antonov and is a free adaption of Ray Bradbury's 1958 short story ''The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit''. Plot summary Three youngster living in a small coastal town at the Black Sea spend their time roving about. Some day they discover a black pinstriped Gucci suit in the window of a fashion shop in the big city, where they have to go by ferry. They plan to obtain this specific suit in order to appear as successful and confident adults once they wear it. ''The Suit'' is a short drama film from South Africa written and directed by Jarryd Coetsee, and produced by Luke Sharland, based on the short story by Can Themba. The film stars Tony Award-winner John Kani as Mr. Maphikela, and his son, Atandwa Kani as Philemon. Phuthi Nakene plays Matilda. Plot In 1950s Sophiatown, South Africa, a man forces his wife to treat her lover's suit as if it were a person, with tragic consequences.
