"The Steps" is a song by American pop rock band Haim from their third studio album '' Women in Music Pt. III'' (2020). It was written by band members Alana Haim, Este Haim and Danielle Haim with Rostam Batmanglij and Ariel Rechtshaid; the latter three also produced it. The single was released by Columbia Records on March 3, 2020 alongside the album's pre-order. The track was regarded by several critics as one of the best songs of 2020 and was nominated for Best Rock Performance at the 63rd Grammy Awards. Haim ( ; meaning "life" Haim, in Hebrew; stylized in all caps as HAIM) is an American Rock music, rock band, based in Los Angeles, composed of three sisters, Este Haim, Este (bass guitar and vocals), Danielle Haim, Danielle (lead vocals, guitar, and drums), and Alana Haim (guitars, keyboards, and vocals). In addition to their primary instruments, each is proficient in several others. Cass McCombs (born November 13, 1977) is an American singer-songwriter. Career McCombs has played in numerous bands in the Bay Area during the 1990s before relocating to New York City. Annie Macmanus (born 18 July 1978), known professionally as Annie Mac, is an Irish DJ, broadcaster and writer. She hosted a variety of shows on BBC Radio 1, including BBC Switch and ''Future Sounds''. Riff
A riff is a short, repeated motif or figure in the melody or accompaniment of a musical composition. Riffs are most often found in rock music, punk, heavy metal music, Latin, funk, and jazz, although classical music is also sometimes based on a riff, as in Ravel's Boléro. Riffs can be as simple as a tenor saxophone honking a simple, catchy rhythmic figure, or as complex as the riff-based variations in the head arrangements played by the Count Basie Orchestra. Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s.
