"The Soul of My Suit" is a song by English rock band T. Rex, which was released in 1977 as the second single from their twelfth and final studio album ''Dandy in the Underworld''. The song was written and produced by Marc Bolan. "The Soul of My Suit" reached number 42 in the UK Singles Chart and remained in the top 50 for three weeks. Writing and recording "The Soul of My Suit" is believed to have been influenced by Bolan's first wife June, whom he separated from in 1973. In a 1975 interview on Capital Radio, Bolan described "The Soul of My Suit" as having been written about "a woman who had bruised my ego". According to Gloria Jones, the song was not only influenced by Bolan's imminent divorce from June, but was also a way of him telling the public "If you don't support me, I understand". ''Dandy in the Underworld'' is the twelfth and final studio album by England, English Rock (music), rock band T.Rex (band), T. Rex. It was released on 11 March 1977 by record label EMI Records, EMI. It reached number 26 in the UK charts, the band's highest-charting album since 1974's ''Zinc Alloy and the Hidden Riders of Tomorrow, Zinc Alloy''. The lead-off single "I Love to Boogie" had been a hit single in the UK the previous year, peaking at number 13 in the singles chart. ''Dandy in the Underworld'' was regarded by critics as a comeback for the band. It was praised for the strength of the songwriting and Bolan's vocal performances. However, it would prove to be the band's final album, as Marc Bolan died in a car crash in September 1977 at the age of 29. Richard Anthony Newman (born 17 March 1943) is an English rock drummer. He was at various times a member of the bands Sounds Incorporated, May Blitz, Three Man Army, T. Rex, and Boxer. He has performed with Little Richard, Jeff Beck, David Bowie, George Harrison, Robert Palmer, Eric Clapton, Donovan, Mick Ronson, Gene Vincent, Crystal Gayle, The Everly Brothers and others. In 1965, Newman played with Sounds Incorporated as one of the acts opening for the Beatles at Shea Stadium in New York City. Brian Keith "Herbie" Flowers (19 May 1938 – 5 September 2024) was an English musician specialising in bass guitar, double bass and tuba. He was a member of groups including Blue Mink, T. Rex and Sky and was also a prolific session musician. Peter Leslie "Dino" Dines (17 December 1944 – 28 January 2004) was a British keyboard player, best known for his work as a member of T. Rex. He was also a member of the Apostolic Intervention and the Keef Hartley Band. Early career Dines was a member of the Apostolic Intervention alongside future Humble Pie/Syd Barrett drummer Jerry Shirley. Their song " (Tell Me) Have You Ever Seen Me?" was donated by future Humble Pie frontman Steve Marriott. Later, Dines played in the Keef Hartley Band, fronted by his future T.
