The Slowest Train
''The Slowest Train'' () is a 1963 Soviet war film directed by Vladimir Krasnopolsky and Valeriy Uskov. Plot In the spring of 1943, during the Great Patriotic War, a military train departs from a liberated city, transporting prisoners of war to the rear. Attached to the train is a special carriage carrying a divisional printing press and Captain Sergeyev, a frontline correspondent. Though initially expecting to travel alone, Sergeyev finds his carriage gradually filling with uninvited passengers: a wounded soldier with a young girl, a pregnant woman and her companion, two party officials, an actress, and others. Despite the unexpected company, Sergeyev cannot bring himself to turn them away, as each passenger carries their own scars of war. Only one passenger, an opportunistic smuggler who traveled from Siberia to profit in the frontline zone, is expelled for his greed. Vladimir Krasnopolsky
Vladimir Arkadyevich Krasnopolsky (; 14 June 1933 – 23 September 2022) was a Russian film director, producer, and screenwriter. Biography Krasnopolsky was born in Sverdlovsk on 14 June 1933 to artist Arkady Vladimirovich Krasnopolsky. In 1955, he graduated from the Faculty of History and Philology at Ural State University and from Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography in 1963. From 1961 to 1963, he was director of the Sverdlovsk Film Studio. In 1964, he became director of Mosfilm. In 1971, he joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. From 1963 to 2015, he directed and wrote all of his films alongside his second cousin, . They went their separate ways in 2016. Krasnopolsky died in Moscow on 23 September 2022, at the age of 89. Lyudmila Shagalova
Lyudmila Alexandrovna Shagalova (; April 6, 1923 – March 13, 2012) was a Russian film supporting actress, active during the Soviet era. She was named a People's Artist of Russia in 1977. Shagalova was born in Rahačoŭ, Gomel Governorate, Russian SFSR, now Belarus. Her Soviet cinema credits include '' The Young Guard'' in 1948, for which she and rest of the film's cast won a Stalin Prize. Other films include ''Balzaminov's Marriage'' in 1964, and the '' Wounded Game'' in 1977. Her husband Vyacheslav Shumsky (1921–2011) was an award-winning cinematographer. Shagalova died on March 13, 2012, at the age of 88. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin released a statement in response to her death saying, "An actress of great talent who had a considerable impact on the history of the national film art.
