Memoryhouse
Memoryhouse is a Canadian indie dream pop music group formed in 2009 in Guelph, Ontario. The band was signed to Sub Pop. Memoryhouse consists of Evan Abeele (composer) and Denise Nouvion (vocalist). Their sound has been described as similar to that of Beach House. Reception In reviewing the 2010 release of ''The Years'', Pitchfork wrote that "the EP clearly sets Abeele and Nouvion apart from their more amateur peers. Dream Pop
Dream pop (also typeset as dreampop) is a subgenre of alternative rock and neo-psychedelia that emphasizes atmosphere and sonic texture as much as pop melody. Common characteristics include breathy vocals, dense productions, and effects such as reverb, echo, tremolo, and chorus. It often overlaps with the related genre of shoegaze, and the two genre terms have at times been used interchangeably. The genre came into prominence in the 1980s through the work of groups such as Cocteau Twins and A.R. Kane. Subsequently, acts such as My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Galaxie 500, Julee Cruise, Lush, and Mazzy Star released significant albums in the style. It saw renewed popularity among millennial listeners following the late-'00s success of Beach House. ''The Years'' is an Extended Play, EP and the first major release by Guelph, Ontario-based dream pop duo Memoryhouse, released on September 13, 2011. ''The Years'' is Memoryhouse's Sub Pop debut. ''The Years'' is a re-release of an EP by the same name released in February 2010 while Memoryhouse was signed to Arcade Sound, a very small independent record label. Critical reception Reception for ''The Years'' EP has been mixed. While many reviewers were very positive in regards to Memoryhouse's particular ambient sound, they noted that with so little music under their belt it seemed regressive that Memoryhouse release a redux of music they already recorded. Guelph, Ontario
Guelph ( ; 2021 Canadian Census population 143,740) is a city in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. Known as "The Royal City", Guelph is roughly east of Kitchener and west of Downtown Toronto, at the intersection of Highway 6, Highway 7 and Wellington County Road 124. It is the seat of Wellington County, but is politically independent of it. Guelph began as a settlement in the 1820s, established by Scotsman John Galt, who was in Upper Canada as the first Superintendent of the Canada Company.
