''The Sister'' is an extended play by Marissa Nadler. It was released on May 29, 2012, by Box of Cedar Records. Nadler announced the EP on her Facebook page as a "sister album" to her 2011 eponymous album. The album was dubbed by ''Paste Magazine'' an "impressive concoction of stark minimalism." Marissa Nadler
Marissa Nadler (born April 5, 1981) is an American musician and fine artist. Active since 2000, she is currently signed to Sacred Bones Records and Bella Union, and released her ninth full-length studio album, ''The Path of the Clouds'', in October 2021. As a singer-songwriter, her music has been characterized as blending "traditional folk, Gothic Americana, and dreamy pop into an original musical framework". Her music "is rooted in old-school country and folk but brings in elements of experimental and black metal". Sometimes the term "dream folk" has been invoked to describe her work. Singing in a mezzo-soprano, Nadler has received acclaim for her vocals. Dream Pop
Dream pop (also typeset as dreampop) is a subgenre of alternative rock and neo-psychedelia that emphasizes atmosphere and sonic texture as much as pop melody. Common characteristics include breathy vocals, dense productions, and effects such as reverb, echo, tremolo, and chorus. It often overlaps with the related genre of shoegaze, and the two genre terms have at times been used interchangeably. The genre came into prominence in the 1980s through the work of groups such as Cocteau Twins and A.R. Kane. Subsequently, acts such as My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Galaxie 500, Julee Cruise, Lush, and Mazzy Star released significant albums in the style. ''Marissa Nadler'' is the fifth studio album by American musician Marissa Nadler. It was released on June 14, 2011, by Box of Cedar Records. The song "Baby, I Will Leave You In The Morning" was released as a free download on March 8, followed by a music video for the song. Background On November 5, 2010, Marissa Nadler started a Kickstarter campaign to support the start of the album. She received $17,037 from 390 people to start up the campaign. The album was recorded over a three-week period in January 2011. Release On March 25, 2011, Nadler announced the release of her eponymous album, explaining: "It's the most honest, natural record I've ever written... I'm no longer hiding. The mystery still exists in the music as an aesthetic tool, but the songs cut harder because of the vocal mix, with more varied colors than my other records." ''July'' is Marissa Nadler's sixth full-length studio album, released in the UK on February 10, 2014, on Bella Union and in North America on Sacred Bones Records. The album was recorded at Seattle's Avast Studios and produced by Randall Dunn. Meeting with a largely positive reception, it debuted at No. 16 on the ''Billboard'' Folk Albums chart and No. 14 on the ''Billboard'' Top Heatseekers Albums chart. '' PopMatters'' called the album a "triumph" and "one of 2014's best albums so far", while ''Spin'' called it a "masterfully composed release". ''Pitchfork'' (formerly ''Pitchfork Media'') is an American online music publication (currently owned by Condé Nast) that was launched in 1995 by writer Ryan Schreiber as an independent music blog. Schreiber started Pitchfork while working at a record store in suburban Minneapolis, and the website earned a reputation for its extensive coverage of indie rock music. Helena Espvall
Helena Espvall is a Swedish-American musician noted for her participation in the post-millennial psychedelic folk and free improv scenes. Career Espvall's early career included work with Arabian music ensemble Sumer and with Projektor 7, a silent movie orchestra formed by members of Swedish pop group Komeda. She relocated to Philadelphia, USA in the year 2000. Time spent concentrating on cello improvisation led to performances at the High Zero festival in 2001 and 2002. Espvall subsequently entered Philadelphia's flourishing psychedelic and weird-folk circles. She joined Espers shortly after they recorded their first album, was a member of The Valerie Project, and formed the duo Anahita with Tara Burke (a.k.a. Fursaxa).
